HTF can the UK spend twice as much as the Indian Armed Forces and have
4 less submarines
3000 (!!!!) less tanks
30% the number of aircraft
1.15 million less active personnel

erm, small matter of india being 4 times the size and I don't know how many more people.
Christ, they don't need an army. If the entire country advanced on any invading force, and they took 1000-1 casualty rate, they'd STILL have no problem wiping them out.

On the salary front, (google is my friend) Indian Armed Forces pays £2.25 Billion & the UK pays £7.9 Billion (give or take) in wages, so not that far apart. That still means the Indian Armed Forces pay a lot less for their kit and other stuff.

As with all government departments. We don't buy the best equipment at the best prices.
We buy overpriced, poorly designed/built equipment from companies owned by our politicians mates/family members who they just so happen to get employed by when they leave office.

My first thought would have been India buying second hand stuff, i.e. we sell our old equipment to India or something along them lines.

Considering all the coutries close to India you can see they have real threats. We spend more because we are up at the forefront of technology all be it behind USA. Talking of USA we used to buy most of our missiles ect from them. Wonder why they keep telling us to go to war. Sign up to defend queen and country. What a joke. To many of our guy,s not coming back, should send those politicions to the front line
