I bought our last 3 tv's from Amazon. They gave the most competitive prices bar a few on-line retailers who i had never, ever heard of or had little to no feedback/track record. Probably worth looking around the high street at a few models to see what you like and then comparing their prices vs. Amazon to check you are getting a good deal. the last two sets i bought where at the end of last year - a 40" and a 21" (kids) and saved a minimum of £85.00 and £39.00 (best high street prices) respectively.

Ok I have looked at both Panasonic and Samsung. In one store the Panny looked better yet in the next the Samsung did.... same models! This is my issue, it's all down to quality of the source so I guess I was asking for personal recommendations as you can't trust what you see in Currys etc.
I have tired the AV forums but to be honest I don't think I'd buy any TV if I read that place cover to cover as they seem to find faults with all of them.

All joking aside last year I got myself a good set of glasses with an ultra clear coat on them, it has been one of the best upgrades I've made to my home cinema setup.
The ST30 is a great TV, I really dislike the Samsung LED range, I have yet to be impressed with the image they produce, it always look fake.

I used to be a tv engineer and Panasonic was the best by far. Going back about 4yrs now. Samsung are good now tho. Also LG are coming up on the world too. If you gets Plamsa Becareful of the screen burning, that's not covered under warranty!

About 4 years ago I bought a Philips Ambilight TV 47", I think back then it came to around £1600.
Since then I find it hard to enjoy watching the TV without an ambilight in the background. Obviously the picture is good, but the lights really add to the experience.
I dont even think Philips make them any more though, so not really much help to you other than a rather nice story for me!

Philips is certainly one tv brand I wouldn't recommend, their software and tuners are shîte.
Sorry jamz my mistake, regarding the Samsung not looking real. I found that too until I messed around the setting and it's spot on now

So what TV did you end up with then?
I'm in a similar situation going to get Sky HD for the F1 and now need to look for a new TV, Not fussed about 3D or Smart TV (who the **** wants to look at facebook on a 50" screen anyway lol) budget about £700 quid although I could go slightly higher if need be, about 50" or bigger would be nice.
Going by the searcing I've done there was some new TV's being released in Feb but I don't know new stock from old, so what's hot and what's not?

I get grief off my landlord for referring to their heating 'engineers' as technicians
Back on topic, I'd go for either Panasonic or Sony, had an old Panasonic CRT for the last 16 years and still going strong, but the picture quality on my Sony HDTV is superb

Most people seem to back Panasonic for all round quality. I certainly have been very happy with them.
I have a plasma but I did see a backlit LED Panny the other day and I was very impressed with the picture quality. Might be worth a look at one to see what you think. Can't beat watching F1 on one of those of course!

Is it just me, or do ALL these modern TV's seem to lose something when not viewed from dead on in front?
My old Toshiba 32" 100Hz CRT TV doesn't.
AND I get no faded edges or blur of moving items.
I sometimes wonder if bigger IS better, and if we are being conned about picture quality......are the newer pictures REALLY better?
