Benefits being claimed by more than 370,000 migrants
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16643677
and this gem - ok it is in The Sun but read on.http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...-payments.html
A BIG Issue seller from Romania has won a landmark ruling allowing her to claim housing benefit in the UK.
Mum-of-four Firuta Vasile, 27, was initially refused the benefit because current rules say immigrants from Romania and Bulgaria cannot claim if they are jobless.
But a tribunal judge decided that Vasile, who sells the Big Issue in Bristol, is self-employed.
Now immigrants who sell the Big Issue stand to claim up to £20,000 a year in housing benefits after the ruling classed their work as a "proper job".
She already receives £491 a week in tax credits and other benefits and is set to get £50 a week for housing.
One off - i doubt it and the bbc link kinda backs that up.
Looking forward to the first play of the race card or being called a xenophobe or that tired and pathetic excuse about 'home grown scum' as if it mitigates this - two wrongs do not make a right

There you go Paul - some evidence to help you calm down.
Independent economists demonstrate that immigration is not the evil many portray it to be!
Immigration does not cause unemployment

This really ****'s me off
I have been living in the UK for the last 41 years (I am 41 years old) and have been out of work for nearly 3 years now I don't sign on so I don't get any benefits (before some of you jump on your high donkey's) and the reason I don't sign on is because all I would get is my stamp paid No money just the degrading feeling everytime you go in to the local job centre (10 miles away).
So for foreigners to come over here and get the benefits disgusts me
Oh and the reason I don't get any money is because I hadn't earned enough money the 2 years previous! (so like 5 years ago nearly).

The sooner the benefit rules are tightened up the better (for immigrants and non-immigrants alike).

How can they claim housing benefit if they're squatting in people's homes in and around London? The streets are lined with money for these people and the tourism is great if you're after free benefits and health care for all the family.

Works out at "just under 7%" or "just over 6%" of the benefits claimants, depending on which radio station you listen to.
But Imagine knocking even 6% off the benefits bill in one go?
How much difference would THAT make?
Welfare is already the government's biggest spend. Perhaps this is a way to cut it?
"What? You are here and claiming? Bye bye."

I wasn't aware being homeless was a condition for selling the Big Issue, only that it's proceeds go towards helping the homeless (though after the lot I saw in London this week, they can go rot......).

I think what we need is a fully integrated "on-boarding/off-boarding" system. Problem is that whilst there are many departments and offices involved for people coming in and out of the country, none of them are communicating with each other and their system is fragmented and on different systems. But I would guess that setting up such a system would be costly and become hugely bureaucratic and would undoubtedly infringe on their human rights. The EU policy for free of movement of labour is being exploited by people who have no intention of working.

451+50 = 501, bearing in mind benefits dont get taxed means she gets,
501x52 = 26000.
which is mroe than i earn, thats is whats wrong with the whole system.
bearing in mind she wil be getting lots of things free, no council tax etc etc, i bet its £35k +.
i think im gonna quit and claim benefits, nice 10k+ payrise will do nicely

You will probably find those four kids were born in the UK. So as a parent/guardian she has every right to claim to support them.
Sadly its a common trick, and there's quite a few Romanians in Spain that do the very same trick.
Remember all those Romanian ophans from years ago?
