Question Time

I thought exactly the same thing, what a plank.
I'm finding the audience on that programme increasingly annoying. First they'll all clap at one comment, thirty seconds later they'll all clap at the complete opposite argument. Do these idiots change their minds every thirty seconds??
David Lammy only wants a regional cap on housing benefit so that parts of society can pay through taxation for other people without jobs to continue to live in areas that they themselves can't afford
As for that so called comedian, he needs to get a proper job

I was watching this in bed so started to nod off, but did I hear that Lammy lambasting the £900k worth of shares bonus to the RBS chief, only for Lib Dem chap to very quickly say that it was Labour that put such a contract forward for this to happen?
Could almost see Lammy go red...
Touché, I say.
That 'comedian' is just another 1980's Ben Elton alike throw back - not even funny when he's trying to be.
And as for the audiences on QT of late.....

Lammy's absolutely unbearable. Talentless. His performance last night would have been deeply embarrassing for Labour's old-guard - they must seriously wonder what's happened to their party. Dimbleby interrupted peoples' perorations, again. The comedian was a bad joke; a caricature lefty who's clearly failed to develop his views beyond the student union. I don't think the Tory bird actually spoke. Jeremy Browne did quite well, I like him; old-school, relatively no-nonsense and refreshingly aggressive for a Lib. Dem. - even went so far as to claim he's libertarian, which suits me. The only real highlight of the show was when said uber-Janner claimed that the world should allow Iran to finish building its nukes; Melanie Phillips looked at him with incredulity and contempt before going on to point out that the state is effectively a Shia death-cult desperate to usher in the Mahdi. Uber-Janner looked blank: What's a Mahdi?

Its not the programme it used to be. Apart from the pretty poor panels they seem to come up with these days, we have to put up with Bumblebum sticking his oar in all the time in an attempt to impress us but in fact destroying the thread of the argument most of the time.

I disagree with a lot of what she says, though I admire her spirit and the clarity of her argument. On the issue of Iran her assertions were a matter of irrefutable fact.
Q. Does the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Khamenei, seek to hasten the return of Mahdi?
A. Yes he ******* does. Source: Article 5 of The Republic's constitution,
“During the absence of the removed Twelfth Imam (Mahdi) – may God hasten his return! – government and leadership of the community in the Islamic Republic of Iran belong to the rightful God fearing… legal scholar (Faqih) who is recognized and acknowledged as the Islamic leader by the majority of the population.”
It's in the public domain, Maz, Iran aren't denying it, they've actually written in to their constitution! And how will the Mahdi return? "The Twelfth Imam will return as the Mahdi with "a company of his chosen ones," and his enemies will be led by the one-eyed Antichrist and the Sufyani. The two armies will fight "one final apocalyptic battle" where the Mahdi and his forces will prevail over evil. After the Mahdi has ruled Earth for a number of years, Isa will return."
And who do the Iranian leadership claim to be the "one-eyed Antichrist"? The US. And that's a matter of historical fact! They've openly stated that they wish to see Israel 'wiped from the face of the Earth'.
Now, with that as a backdrop, the only way I can imagine any human being would want Iran to have nukes is if they were an ignorant lefty (or a 'useful idiot' as they would be more appropriately labelled) or mad or a Shia fanatic. And I'm not sure the latter are dissimilar. If I were a Sunni living in Iraq I certainly wouldn't want Iran being nuclear capable, would you?

They put that footballer on again who spouted a load of populist crap and the two women were pathetic (especially the Labour bird, another embarrassment to a once proud party). Redwood was ok, Starkey was superb.

This video doesn't seem to work, I don't know if it will for you.

Sorry, your phone does not support BBC iPlayer. More phones will be supported in the future.
Gave up on Question Time many moons ago. It doesn't try to actually "debate" any more, just to entertain. And the Beeb's view of entertainment is a host who keeps cutting in and an audience who are recruited as they make Arthur Scargill look right-wing!

Not sure what to make of Starky. No doubt he has an excellent mind and makes a lot of very good points. But he is so up his own arsehole that he annoys me. Redwood - the Vulcan - seems to have calmed down a bit and made some sound points. That labour woman was just silly.
I stayed up to see Galloway on This Week but he was a shadow of his former fiery self. His take was that we should share the Falklands with the Argies with some sound reasoning.

Its a shame that quite alot of what Starkey says isn't very far from the truth but he can't seem to put his point across without insulting somebody.
The footballer and the "public sector pilgrims" question was funny.

He doesn't have or want to be PC and that's why, for me, he's a pleasure to watch and listen to. I love watching the people around him squirm as he cuts through the constructs and deals, overwhelmingly, in matters of fact. Refreshing and brilliant.

He tells it like it is but theres no getting away from the fact that some of what he says gets lost in that slightly embarrassing manner of his - more obnoxious than non-PC.

I think Starkey is a refreshing change from the same old drivel. You know what everyone else is going to say before they say it and that's pathetic. A completely worthless program, in my opinion, unless you want to get an idea of the general political consensus of the British public, which I don't unless it's to stock up on shotgun cartridges to keep them away.
Oops, am I being obnoxious?
