Default Dipping your fingers into the education pot?

And coming up with them covered in gold?

What a GREAT idea, eh?

Well THAT seems to be what the Tories want.

No wonder business is queuing up to lead the new academies, since each school they take on must give them up to 5% of their budget.

And for a medium sized primary, that could be £50,000. MORE THAN A TEACHER!

So...great idea. Tory supporters get money.
Schools lose teachers and other staff.

And of course, standards are BOUND to rise....aren't they?

The new Tory idea that ALL schools should become academies "in order to raise standards.

They will be "in partnership" with various businesses, who will receive up to 5% of the school's budget.
These businesses can take on more than one school at a time.....

And exactly what the businesses will do "to raise standards" is unclear.....

Smacks of allowing your mates a dip into the education budget, to me

Are you two for real? Or on a wind-up?

You haven't SEEN anything about the tory "academies" at all?

If that is the case then it will be as badly handled as private business running hospitals. I'm in the north at the moment and the stories of Balfour Beaty running the local hospitals is just horrific.

I was confused when my daughter got her placement at the Creche in the DW&P. She is at college studying childcare.
Anyway, it is run by Interserve!!!! I only know them as builders

YES!.
But THEIR idea had the business putting money IN to the schools. There were, understandably, few takers.......the CofE, Mr Djanogly.........

The TORY way will take money AWAY from schools

Throwing money at schools is not the answer, you can't polish a turd after all.

You would get no disagreement from me.

But if this new model costs teachers' jobs, and thus class sizes rise, is THAT good?

Big mistake to get rid of grammar schools and an entry exam such as the old 11 plus. The right pupils got the chances that they were most likely to make get the full benefit of.

We still have Grammar schools in N.Ireland.

The 11plus test has been done away with here.
Some old bag called Caitriona Ruane said that the test was not fair
So now instead of doing 1 test in your own school, you now have to do 3 separate tests(at weekends), and not in the comfort of your own school.

Can't see anything unfair in the 11 plus. It was a good intelligence test.

That's what's unfair about it. One kid is no longer allowed to be shown to be cleverer than another, it's a bit like the way there is no such thing as a bad teacher ... what a crock of ****

Well..............except that it made no allowance for kids who developed later than others.
Or for boys, who develop later than girls.

My mate, who sadly passed away last summer, failed his eleven-plus.

He struggled to 7 GCE "O" levels DESPITE the secondary school he was in, then went on to do OND AND "A" Levels at the same time, before getting a good engineering degree, and going on to become one of the top engineers on the Scunthorpe Tata Steel Plant.

But he FAILED his eleven plus....so by most people's reckoning, wasn't intelligent?

No wonder it had to go......discredited.

Yes I understand your point and have to agree in the case of late developers.

Trouble was at the time was that it was not possible to send every child to a grammar school so they had to have some kind of a filter.

The answer of course was to improve the standard of education all round, but in recent times standards have been dropped even further for appearances' sake.

We now have the situation where they are all dipping out!

You've hit the nail on the head!!

It's like schools wanting to ban sports day because the fat kids who can't run feel left out and let down.

What a load of bollox, I wasn't fat at school but I was just rubbish at sports and didn't care if I was in sports day or not.

If you reduce standards as they have done for quite some time now, the results look good on paper!

No argument from me.

A bit like finding new ways to count the unemployed?
Or to work out the rate of inflation?

Yes exactly.

I just feel sorry for those who are not getting the chances that they deserve for the sake of the scuzzy politicians' perceived reputations.
