Car battery charger question
If I use a battery charger that has a slightly lower Ah charge than the battery Ah rating will the battery still be charged a bit or perhaps take longer to fully charge up the battery?
Thanks, David

D, always use a small batt charger on it. The golden rule is recharge slow and gentle. These dump chargers do a great job of wrecking your cells.
I would suggest a 4Amp charger , dont spend more than £15 or your being ripped off , uinless its one with intellegence , that can decide mid charge if the battery is nearly full, but most sellers try to bull**** you on that point.
I say small charger , but max time, go for 4 Amp but all night.
Come home from work, stik it on charge, have ur t , WALK to the pub, sleep it off . In the morning , the batt will be great. )
If you charge on the car(ur sposted to take em off) make sure the batt can breath by loosening the filler caps, and make sure all the electrics are turned off, otherwise the nett increase will be zero.
We use a small motorbike charger on our (range)cars , it fits back under a closed bonnet and doesnt harm the battery, and is used most nights when the temperature drops in winter.Have done this for a few years now, and never had a problem startin in the mornin. GoodLuck mate. x

Yes it will, just takes longer. I also have a 2amp intelligent jobby (with temperature compensation) thats originally suited for motorbike batteries and thats fine on anything I put it on. The one BMW battery is 90Ah as is the one on my Golf. Just takes a while thats all.
However If you are using a dumb charger as mentioned above I really do sugegst you bin it and getting a proper intelligent multistage charger. They are a really good investment as it will never kill a battery, where a dumb charger will - even trickle chargers!
A dumb trickle charger can't properly bulk charge or equalize the cells properly due to insufficent voltage to break down sulphation
A dumb 'normal' charger will bulk charge ok, but won't float charge as the voltage is too high and can easily over or undercharge the battery if you don't regularly monitor carefully the current flow, voltage and time its connected.

Thanks very much peeps. I didn't get my bonus this year so not flush with cash at present. Someone nicked my old charger so need another to suit a 60 Ah battery (Volvo 2.3 engine).
I did go into Halfrauds but seemed super expensive for chargers. Found one on e-bay up to 70 Ah for £12.79 so will have a go at that and hope it does the trick for a while anyway.
Cheers, david

Halfords will be expensive - retail shop. Like all big shops that hold huge stocks they have overheads to cover.
Can't comment on how good this is but it ticks the boxes:
