Cool Cycle to Work Scheme launched at work

So I'll be getting a new bike

Can anyone recommend a road bike for £5-600?

Where can you buy the bike from under this scheme - are there approved outlets or can you go anywhere?

It`s usually just Halfords. Boardman bikes are decent though.

There are variations on the scheme and it depends which your company is in my organisations preferred partner was halfords so the only choice is bordman really. I went outside the scheme and bought a specialized bike.

I like the look of the Boardman bikes when shopping around last year but wondered if you wre paying for the name.

To an extent you are. That's why I went for specialized as I found I could get an equivalent bike a good bit cheaper but that's maybe slightly unfair to bordman as their bikes always do well in reviews.

If you are going on cycle to work scheme you may as well go all out and spend £1000 on one of their bordmans, the cheapest are around £700 I think.

Yeah, you need to be careful with the CTW schemes now. They aren't as good as they were. You should confirm the final payment as some places are making it a lot more than it used to be.

Not putting you off, it's a great idea but maybe not so good. It may almost be better to go for an interest free option and have more choice.

Very true. You need to read the small print!

I've used the CTW scheme twice, just finished the last one so waiting for the final payment figure
My first CTW saved more money, now i think you'd be better getting discount from the bike shop. Without really trying i bought a Trek mountain bike with 10% discount.

I looked into the scheme last year but decided I didn't trust the Gov't so bought a bike which was last years model and got 200 quid off.

OK it was last years model but didn't bother me

The other option is to wander around something like retrobike.co..uk and see what is available slightly used. Bikes do not hold their value well at the moment !

Or look at places like Merlin Cycles which sell last years stock usually at about 30 percent off
