Missing pension contributions.

Missing pension contributions.
This relates to my wife. In a nut shell, her contract of employment stated that the company she worked for payed 10% of her gross salary into a pension fund, however it now turns out there are big gaps in said payments. I've not gone through the numbers yet but i guess we're talking around 10k.
The company has since gone bust but has returned under a new name
Is there anything we can do to recover the missing payments or are we screwed?
I'd like to sue the **** off the man at the top but doubt i'll get anywhere, maybe push him off a yacht Maxwell style might be better.
Nik.

Pension funds can go up as well as down so are you 100% sure that the contributions have not been made?

I've seen a detailed contribution statement which clearly shows gaps.
No contribution from her by the way, just employer.

Similar thing happened to my mum.
Her payslips showed that she had been paying contributions, but when it came to her actually claiming the pension she found out her boss hadn't been paying them.
There was nothing anyone could do to help, only thing she could do was take her former boss to court.
