Anyone in the TA?

Anyone in the TA?
As above, I'm thinking of signing up to the territorial army and wanted to know if anyone here had any personal experiences they could share or answer any questions I might have rather than the vague answers from the Internet.
Cheers guys

Hmm, can't they make you go to hot, dusty places to provide target practice for insurgents once you've signed up.
No thanks and anyway I've got better stuff to be doing in my spare time

This is just my opinion, the TA to me is like for someone who wants to "play" army
Either sign up or don't bother
Like I said my opinion, if I was on thr front line I couldn't trust a "part timer"

play army???? maybe you should try doing the training and going on a tour and then see if the lads are playing army.a lot of the lads are ex-regs or youngsters that want to do their bit part time before commiting to it full time.i have said goodbye to a couple mates that were in the TA and had more courage than most people i know.
it works by doing training evenings once a week at a local tac then maybe 1-2 weekends a month on exercise with a 2 week course at catterick with the regs for the rifles lads.then you can volunteer for the next tour coming up and then its 2 weeks at lidd then 3 months pre-op training with your regular unit that you will be going with then your tour.your work have to support you fully and hold youur job for when you get back.that is the law now and you wouldnt believe how many companies support the TA as the skills you gain can help in civvie street.i have seen both sides as a reg and also training the TA.tours are optional and you cannot be forced to go,but most people join to do a tour.it is a worthwhile thing doing and forget what people that have never served say about toy soldiers etc as they just havnt the nads to do it themselves.
it takes a lot of courage and self belief to complete the training and do a tour.the days of dads army are long gone.

I'd read that but it's just a wall of text.
Like I said its my opinion take it or leave it.
P.s don't assume everybody on here hasn't been in the forces , it can make you look a bit daft throwing "haven't got the nads" line about.

I had several friends in the HAC, they loved it -- and had to work/train very hard too
and amazingly learn't how to have a ****, wipe their ar3e and clean their hands all with one square of toilet paper, before "baging" it in their rucksuck
they had to do this because they said they were sort of special opps / SAS
i was convinced "SAS" stood for Saturdays and Sundays
but serioulsy, they all loved it and did work very hard at it (and made enough money to have a decent holiday a year out of it)

the training is the same as the regs now just over a longer time frame but you still have to pass your matts each year to prove you are up to the regs standards.i served with royal marines when i left school and more recently the rifles inc the TA and a lot of the lads doing all arms course to get their green lid so standards are very high now.obviously there are the normal mongs but no more than in the regs, plus if your crap you wont get on tour.on last tour my serjeant was a TA soldier and we didnt find out until the last day in ganners.all i can say is give it a go.at the least you will get fit and meet some great mates and even get a tour in.

thanks for those who have given me genuine advice through their experience, I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion I will just take what I see beneficial from it all and go from there, but the reason I asked on here is so I could go ahead knowing what I was going into so that there were no unexpected surprises

Not in the Ta but better
RAF Regiment . Brilliant bunch of lads. . a lot of hard work and several weeks a year spent out in the field all over britain. Trained to the same standard as reg's now (Fitness,,whts,,opsec and all that good stuff) have to be. .
To prove that you (Well we do) do tabs , section attacks etc etc and that with them. So were on the same wavelength . . If not . .You work at it till you are!.
You will or should get a lot of support from your employer especially larger businesses. Your jobs safe,no wage drop, pension is all secure if deployed (dont say its not..one would no).
The reserves are changing dramatically for the better with a lot more emphasis on "Raising the standard". So much so. . In a line up or on exercise . . You see a few guys go "Oh your a oggie...didnt know that" . .Biggest compliment off all.
Give it a go . .if you enjoy it. . want to change career..then by **** you can go Reg. If you enjoy reserves . . home job. Then you can make a great career out of it.
Also there is a lot of people from civvie street with specialist and current skills that benefit the military and make a unit far more wide ranging and better trained.
Wouldnt now about the TA unit's ..my own experience with one of the TA lads who i work with are quite low. Made me embarrassed when one didn't understand B***W****W (STFU in other words). And also mouthed off about stuff to someone he didnt no about details and places!! OPSEC you barsteward!!
Raf Regiment for me mate. . Have a look round :

RAF Regiment Gunners are part of the RAF’s force protection capability. They learn to handle a range of infantry weapons, including rifles, machine guns and mortars, and train alongside the RAF Force Protection Force Headquarters and field squadrons. Trained in generic force protection skills (for example, acting as guards and sentries) and in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) warning and reporting, they are also experts in fieldcraft (the military skills required to be able to survive in the field, move undetected and observe the enemy without being seen).

Also known as daz
Did six years in the ta, never did a tour but not a lot was going on at the time.
Trained my backside off, our company made a point of doing as good if not a better job than the regs, if not just to **** them off for the hell of it.
Certainly a good experience, i highly recommend it.
Wish i joined the regs tbh, but i left it go a bit late.

You of all people should be proud of people like the OP who want to serve the country in anyway they can. not shoot him down because of some school boy us and them attitude you have adopted.
I hope thats not too much like a wall of txt for you?? I wouldn't want to overwhelm your capacity for reading

My post wasn't intended for people who play cod all day and master-bait to the latest upgrade . Those with some experience will probable understand mate
Also if you happen to have a really good day job and Dont want to give it up. . You still have the option of training, serving, enjoying working for her Majesty lol

Cheers for all the information and offers of help guys it's really appreciated, I want to use the opportunity to gain qualifications to better my everyday career in a way that's not going to hit me financially but benefit me in multiple ways. Such as getting fit whilst learning the discipline and emphasis on teamwork that the military promotes plus gaining qualifications to move to a better civvie career path.
Those that think it's just 'playing army' should STFU and not bother spamming the thread I asked for advice or personal experience, It's not like I came on here saying give me a gun and point me at the nearest desert full of Taliban because I think I'm action man

You haven't had a rise out of me at all, I'm just stating that if you have no interest in giving me some genuine advice then don't spam the thread. it will take a lot more than your apparent ignorance to get a rise out of me
