Default RAC refused to recover us off the motorway

I had a flat tyre at 3am near shefield, my 535d has 20" wheels on, and the car does not come with a spare wheel.

They said that as i don't have the standard run-flats or a spare tyre they will not toe me off the motorway.

it was a 3rd party contractor of RAC.

I did not find this acceptable, as we had little ones in the car?

Luckily i had a friend who had AA cover - and they did toe up off without any questions and took us to Quickfit.

Maybe you should have asked them to tow you off the motorway, might have had more luck then

Aside from that, these 20" rims, BMW factory / dealer option or aftermarket? If the latter then I think they have a fair point really, you are expected to have some means of carrying on your journey if you have a flat, e.g. run flats, tyre foam, space saver, or proper spare wheel. They'll happily come and change it for you.

I did ask them to toe me but they refused...T&C's state they will toe me off the motorway to a safe location - regardless if i have a spare or not.

been on the phone to the customer service manager..

Sir, the RAC petrol man left notes saying you did not want to be recovered (what a load of Bullsh1t)!

Okay, i am telling you different - what is RAC going to do about this complaint?

We sir will take it up with our contractors, thank you for letting us know.

Will i hear back from you or get any compensation - No sir.

Daam that women pissed me off!

Our old 5 series had optional 19" wheels that weren't run flats.
No spare wheel either, and that was as it left the factory.

There must be thousands driving around that are the same.

I can't really see why they refused.

Put your complaint in writing to them if you think you had a case.

What was the reason he gave as to not towing you off the motorway , surely there is a bit more to it than your initial post ? Especially as it was 3am and you had a little un in the car ?

I just had a call back, they said that the AA told them to back off..though we clearly remember RAC saying contractors saying to us he cant toe us.

AA guy was on his last shift on his way home, no talking got the car on and off we went..

The other thing was i guess the AA turned up, with the correct toe truck..with RAC i would have had to wait another hour!

i have given up...

I am taking out aa cover..this was somewhat better! just hope they dont run with so many 3rd party contractors like RAC...as this does delay things.

i have ordered a space saver kit for the car..£200..though not sure how well the run flats would have coped on the motorway if the same thing happened..
