Default Letter from DVLA re points on paper licence

OK got a letter from the DVLA re the adding of points to my paper licence (long story got done for speeding in a very blatent cash collection scheme + associated points + fine as magistrates appearance)

Letter states that due to the poor state of my paper licence I must buy a photocard type.
When my paper licence was sent to magiustrates court it was in OK condition - not pristine but usuable.

The letter I received is supposed to include the form but its not in the envelope, the contact number does not work on the letter - just rings out, then cuts out after 6 mins.

Is there any law that states I must buy a new photo card type as I just dont want one or need one ?
Is there any law that states the point must be typed onto my licence ? I've a previous conviction that just written on in biro.

Advice please on where to go with this.

Richard

I'd try a proper forum for this sort of thing, like http://www.pepipoo.com/

But if you want my opinion, FWIW, they probably have you, and you'll have to pay for the new license too

Plus get ready to be raped every ten years for £20 or so when your "photo goes out of date".

if it wasn't sent recorded, you haven't received it

i wouldn't reply, if it wasn't sent recorded just claim it wasn't received. i'm pretty sure you wont get away with it but at least make them work a bit for there cash collection scheme.

If the details are correct on it, there is no reason to change it.

I decided to update mine, wasn't as painful as I thought getting a new card and paper counterpart . As attached as I was to my paper license it was looking sad and the address was well out of date

A little tip, if you apply for a photo card license you get charged whatever it costs but if you send your paper part for a change of address you will get a photo card license for nothing, you just need to fill in the form they send you and include a photo.

Slight high jack here - if you have points on your licence and they have passed the 5 year old mark (expired) do you have to get your driving licence updated ??

You don't have to get it updated legally.

I opted to pay £20 for a replacement license because I wanted all my points removed from my paper part.

I need to get some points I have removed as well, (5 points). Can never find the forms when I go to apost office though, should get my act together and download them really.

I wouldn't ignore correspondence from dvla to be honest. They like to revoke licences for a variety of reasons, such as failing to send your licence in for points etc.
Not scaremongering, but I'd hate for anyone to fall foul...
