id rather get a brand new 16gb mate.
ask them for the serial number which is under general settings and about then go here:

and check how old it is and if there is any apple warranty. if I was paying that id want at least 6 months warranty.

Assuming its wifi only and it's second hand I would say £300 is more like it. You can buy a brand new 16gb wifi version for that price and I would have a new one personally.
