Ipad 3, too hot to handle ?
Contemplating buying a home Ipad, was goign to order a 3 but not sure if its worth the extra and then I read they are having overheating issues so might just go for a 2, anyone got a 3 and is it any better and have your fingers melted.

Tried my in-laws new iPad at the weekend and that got really hot, although it only seemed to be the bottom left of it . Haven't had that problem with the iPad 2 that I got for the missus though.
Think they are taking it back to Apple to see if another one does it or not.

It is the bottom left that was cited as the bit that was getting hot.
Might just go for a 2 and get a 3 when they sort out the issues, sure the screen is lovely but tbh the screen on the 2 is nice enough, certainly dont look at it and think, that needs a much higher res screen, dont think there is much point in HD video on an Ipad, 4.4 gb per film, nice as a tech demo but not essential to enjoy a film on one.

But the iPad 2 only comes with 16Gb now, a few movies, apps and my music and 16Gb is gone very quickly.
And Cloud is no good in a holiday destination with no wi-fi.
Think I'll be getting the new iPad, 64Gb. I'm sure the new apps are going to make use of the high res screen.

Mine gets hot and so I have a call open with Apple which i'm waiting for a phone call from them tomorrow. I may go for a refund as with no cooling in the device I can see an xbox rrod situation with melting solder on the boards/chips in time.

Depends what you're going to use it for. For me it's photography and reading, so the retina display is paramount. I rarely need to zoom to read pages now, whether they're web, magazine or book.
Games? Video? Web? I would recommend iPad 2, unless you have the dosh to spend.
Retina ready apps are bloaty with the high def graphics, so think about 32gb rather than 16.

Would definitely go for a 32gb Ipad 3 if I go for one, just concerned about this heat issue, not a problem as I cant get one anyway, not worth getting trampled by fanboys for one.

Just make sure it's one with lots of storage.
And you'll want enhanced apps too:
"According to tests conducted by Macworld, the enhanced apps consume up to three times as of the iPad's storage space as un-enhanced apps."
According to Macworld, un-enhanced apps look super pixelated on the Retina screen: "Non-Retina apps look more or less like they did on previous iPads -- but on the new iPad's Retina display those pixels really stand out."

Anyone go for a walk in the park nowadays? Get out and have fresh air?

Weirdly mine isn't getting hot when playing games which is what you'd expect to cause heat, can play Fifa for ages and no sign of getting hot at all. However leave the screen on with email open for 20 minutes and then come back to it and it is hot.

Took mine back for a refund, it was like holding a cup of coffee so no way am I trusting that not to cook it's insides at £479. I'll stick with my ipad1 for now and see if anything comes to light and whether there is a battery issue that needs sorting.
