..........my bro in law INSISTS it's all down to "global warming", and is due to the "fact" that the North Atlantic drift and the jet stream have both moved, bringing colder weather to us.
Is he talking out of his nether orifice?

Tbho when you look at the nautral cycle of the world it's completely normal for this weather to be happening ie getting colder/weter.
I will say with what crap we pump into the atmosphere we are accelerating the cycle but there is nothing we can do to stop it,so things things like increased car tax due to output are just a scam the goverment are using to make them feel better about legalised robbery while riding the back of the being grass huggers.

Tell him it doesn't matter as it'll all end before Christmas this year.

I think we are getting back to more normal weather for this time of year, we have had a very mild winter overall, and most of April it has rained going back to the old April showers

To quote the Beeb's very own Michael Fish, writing just 8 summers ago:
The polar jet stream naturally wavers around in the upper atmosphere and so it is not uncommon for it to be passing over our latitudes.
We are therefore not in a "freak" weather pattern, it's just average.
Jet stream to blame for poor summer
