3D BLU-RAY PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS...???
What's the ballpark figures for mid-level and mid-high-end level 3D Blu-ray players these days? I haven't bought any AV gear for years - I'm well out of the game lol.
I'm rather partial to Sony - think they make great gear.
But what's the best VFM one?
Cheers

if its going to double up as a cd player then get an Oppo, if not then get one you can afford, unlike dvd players there's not that much difference between them all, as the spec of blu ray is much tighter. I used to work in a hifi/home cinema shop, and have tried lots of different blu ray players.

Okay. Just to recap you havent bought any AV kit for a while. So I can only imagine that to buy a 3D Blu-Ray player you actually have a 3D TV already?
Only reason I ask is that when I last bought a TV (2 years ago), it was the 1st generation Panasonic 3D 42" Plasma which luckily I got a Panasonic 3D Blu-Ray player BD-100 thrown in for free. Now as both are Panasonic the 2 will talk to each other via the HDMI connection, so as an example playing 3D content the TV will be told by the player which mode to go in etc.. as well as 24FPS mode. The Connect feature button on the TV remote will activate the player with one remote, and using the TV remote you can control the playback without swapping remotes.
The BD-100 player I have does play xvid/Divx and .mkv files (This player is 2 years old). The player has an ethernet port to connect to Viera Cast/connect as well as BD extras if its part of the Blu-Ray film. But I had to buy an extra SD card for this model for the Blu-Ray content to work from the internet.
So if you have a 3D Sony TV then maybe a panasonic may not be a good idea. Just something to think about first

After much research yesterday, I'm tossing up between:-
1) PS3 Slim 3D
2) Panny DMP-BDT220
I can't make up my mind (as the games side of thing of the PS3 isn't necessarily the decisive kicker for me)
I ain't got a 3D TV.... YET! I use a 2D Sanyo PLV-Z4 pj running a 64" diag. picture, with all my devices going through an iScan HD+ scaler/deinterlacer.
I LOVE the giant image of pjs... I am waiting for "glasses-free" technology to evolve to something 'acceptable' (if it ever does).....

As for the PS3, I have a luanch day (2006) version, and playing games such as GT 5 you can via any of the latest Sony Updates play back Games and Blu-Ray films in Dolby 7.1 and in 3D as long as you use a HDMI version 1.3a or above cable

Also, my PS3 talks to my Samsung 3D TV fine. Turns the tv on if I turn on the PS3, or turns the PS3 on if I put it on the channel for it. Also goes into 3D mode automatically no problem.
Web browser on the PS3 is poo, but you do get apps such as iPlayer, Netflix, Lovefilm, 4OD etc... I think it makes a good all round choice over standalone player.

Yeah, I'm aware of the cable side of things for 3D. Cheers.
I'll just get v1.4 ones.
FTR, are 1.3/1.4 cables backwards compatible with 1.0/1.1 devices? I guess they are, as they are designed to simply handle more bandwidth/clockrate... So the earlier 1.0/1.1 (less bandwidth) devices shouldn't cause any issues...?

So I'm sort of killing 3 birds with 1 stone with my replacement 3D/Blu-ray/Internet player for it.
Once bitten, twice shy with regards to Sony now, I'm afraid...
