Default Rolling Roads - Tell us your stories...

Hi Guys,
This should make for an interesting topic, rolling roads.

We have all been to them and seen problem after problem, so tell us yours?

Operator problems... cooling problems... car fell off... car blew up... car made 700bhp on your standard turbo... Run down losses were 700 bhp on your allegedly 1000bhp car... Pet hates? Lets talk about them.

Not had a problem with my various RR mapping sessions (thankfully).

But they do put me on edge - I just wait for a very expensive bang. I hate putting myself through it.

Wasn't keen on the set up at TEG Sport whilst at a RR day there a while back.

Locked in the "Rev Shed" whilst which ever car was on the rollers, wasn't the wisest of things.

Only did one with my first Scoob - an MY95 classic.
Should have only made about 200bhp.(ie standard UK, but OLD)

Came back with about 230-odd... long time ago now (10yrs?)
place was in Cheltenham, and featured in the SIDC magazine

I have a gooden.... I was at a cavalier turbo meet. The white car before mine burst a hose and poured water all over the rollers.. Mine was next and two of us had to sit on the arches to keep the front from slipping out... 252bhp later...

Then jav rolls up, runs his car and gets something like 280ish from his cav turbo... Then says 'now do one with the nos' pulls out 330something then boom! The guy doing the run turned the engine off but left the nos spraying still. It blue the top hat clean I half.

Scary as hell as a flame went from car to the other end of the garage. Everyone stood there thinking wow rather then. ****e.. Run fire!
Would do another though.

Not had a problem so far but have to admit I don't like them.

Have to use a RR for mapping purposes for mine but I can usually be found outside the building while it's on the rollers.

Due for a mapping session next week for TOTB. 2 bar with meth planned so I'll be going for a long walk that evening.

Don't mind hammering the car on track but it just seems like ringing it's neck for the sake of it when it's on the rollers.

Probably Powerstation before they moved to Tewkesbury. On the subject of which that's the only time I ever had my Scoob on the rollers was on a dyno day there, car hadn't felt the same since the last service I'd had done at TH White in Cirencester when I'd asked them to look at a boost cut issue. It only made 190bhp on the rollers so I booked it in with PS to find out what was wrong. Turns out to cure my boost cut issues they's blocked off the bleed pipe from the wastegate solenoid with a screw so I was only getting the nominal 0.5bar wastegate opening pressure. Screw removed, cash exchanged and a new dyno printout for 235bhp (cat back exhaust and panel filter). Much happier.

ap motors in plymouth a few years back when they opened they had a rolling road shootout day.a few of us stood and watched not a single car be strapped down and they had the monitors on a bench directly in front of the car so couldnt be seen so they were just revving until rev limiter in 4th...when asked if my s2 i had at the time was next said no way and what a bunch of muppets they were.the owner was stood 2 foot away and was not happy.they have also had cars jump off the rollers.

Only ever had the VR6 on the rollers once at Dyno Demon with the VR6OC lot.

My **** was twitching like a rabbits nose all the time it was on there though as it does feel like you're just waiting for something to go bang.

I need to get the Impreza dyno'd as I want to know what it's putting out before I start modifying her. I'm just scared though lol!

Below is the video from the VR6OC shoot out day, I had a dodgy MAF and ended up producing the highest BHP for the day (206) with just an exhaust and decat at the time!

I filled the Track and Road rollers in Essex up with so much smoke and fumes people came legging it out the room when i had my old cossie.

turns out the car was running a bit rich - it made 190 whole horsepower.

once saw a classic GL make 300bhp on scoobyclinics rollers,,,,,, ok was a fix was still funny when toasty saw it, the look of confusion on his face till he realised the result was fixed was epic

did highlight how easy it is to fix rolling road results though

Even though earlier on I said I had no problem, I did have a couple of issues.

- One mapping session, chronic clutch slip. Aborted session. (Remapped 3 weeks later on new clutch/lightened flywheel).

- Another sesh, Simon was just finishing, when he/staff noticed flames licking around the headers/uppipe union. . Thankfully they quicky shut the engine off.

Transpired that the plastic undertray's covering had caught fire in a localised area where the covering was disturbed..... Yet another Impreza sans its undertray , and all is good again.

I had the same comment from Rich as PStation, except he was right and it was finished after the session My 2nd classic made 270bhp with sports decat, panel filter only. Clutch change from PStation was errr pricey

Attended a dyno day a few years ago. Half way through they drove in a matt black Toyota Starlet....a right battered old shed!
You could see people sniggering as it was strapped down on the rollers....The faces soon turned to shock as the first run it hit nearly 280bhp..

Here is a dyno plot from my then completely stock UK Bug, can you spot the small discrepancy?

I sold my STi 5's VF28 to a Starlet-based nutter and a week later he contacted me back to say it had been remapped to 301bhp. Then he went onto comment, "...its, er, a bit skittish".
