Default NHS Woes - The Solution

Running this morning ( training for tri) starting wondering why I was bothering , its not like il win anything , it's work after all - maybe it's just vanity
Who wants to be a pretty corpse after all

Then occurred just how much I could be saving the health service later on.

The way it is of course, just isnt going to work in 20 years time , unless we pay more.

So should we reward keep fit participants ( no fees) whilst making the crisp munchers pay more

( I think every body will pay something)

Good plan and I think as I have no kids that I shouldn't contribute towards the education system or certainly should contribute less than the people who have 3 or 4 kids yet expect me to pay for their brats' education.....

.... you see this is supposed to be a society where we all contribute for the common good and maybe instead of worrying about who exactly should pay what for it the effort would be better spent moving the NHS towards a more proactive role rather than a virtually solely reactive one.

Agreed. You could draw similar comparisons for most things in life.

You may save the taxpayer paying for cardiovascular disease but you will cost a fortune with the number of years you will linger on with arthropothy and a shed load of other problems associated with age.........at least the unfit die young and don't cost a lot.......

Which is true LOL

Best thing the NHS can do is to treat people 100% correctly the first time they come in rather than sending them home as soon as they are medically stable and fit enough to walk.

Treat people properly the first time and they wont come back in 3-6 months with exactly the same thing needing even more treatment the second time round. Would save the NHS a fortune.

For argument sake say you are the cause of your car loosing control and colliding with a tree, you then requiring hospital treatment and rehabilitation, the accident is your fault, you caused your injuries - should you be turned away or have to pay out of your own pocket???

OK, what about sports injuries? They're just as self-inflicted as obesity, and actually cost the NHS more for under-forties.

Yes if you're indulging in that sort of pursuit then maybe you should be forced some kind payment also !
As for rehab following accident would you not have some kind medical cover anyway ?

Isn't keeping fit all part of a personal advantage anyway? Especially in later life.

The system of NHS funding was set up in the 1940's ..............not sure it works today, and I work for the NHS.

You could always try rationing by public vote, that massive experiment never got off the ground because the public voted not to pay for treatments for things like AIDS, alcoholism, and other elements of healthcare which they thought were "self inflicted".
