Default Dodgy disc

last year about May ( couple weeks before mot ) i renewed discs and pads all at the same time with mintex - i bought off the net

This year mot , and an advisory that rear offfside disc was pitted and scored ! - but not unsafe

few months later and theres whacking great bits missing , indeed its far worse than the disc i replaced last year

the rest are A1 - what could i have done to cause this

Went away holiday feb for a month , and made a note of leaving handbrake OFF

on return heard graunching from the rear which wore off after a while

Had the same problem recently myself. Both rears sticking. It was actually the sliders on the caliper carrier bracket rather than the piston in the caliper. Could be a good idea to check yours isn't the same problem, otherwise you might waste money on a caliper which isn't needed.

After that the front driver's side started sticking, and that WAS the piston in the caliper. So over the last month or so I have replaced all discs and pads, both rear caliper carriers (about the same price as the caliper itself) and a front caliper.

The handbrake is separate from the caliper so has no baring on it , the handbrake has shoes in the centre of the disc , the footbrake obviously just works the caliper , it sounds like the pad had stuck itself to the disc , probably rusted to it as pads do have metal content in them

We can help you with new discs and pads if you need them

Cheers Ian

If it's a Mondeo then the handbrake mechanism is built into the caliper & these are prone to seizing as are the handbrake cables.
