Good, about time too. The current connector is unecessarily big. Painful in the short term (like when they changed the pins for charging) but ultimately better.

Mountain Lion gets released tomorrow if you want to have another Apple thread.

Excellent news. No doubt a 10p adaptor will be available for the thousands of pieces of hardware that are compatible with the previous version.

Thats been a leading reason to buy into Apple mobile devices, no other has even a single percent of the hardware support Apple have. Buy a pair of mobile speakers with a dock for a Samsung phone and you'll need a new dock in six months. I have 10 year old Apple docks that still work now.

But my Samsung phone has micro-USB, surely that is universal and will be around for at least 10 years

It's Apple that have the problem as they still insist on using a proprietry interface when a standard one (i.e. USB) would do the job just as well?

Apple is USB as well.

It's the position of your usb socket that lets your device down, it changes from phone to phone, if they kept it in the same place hardware could be made to fit.

Yes - and Apple will sell that 10p connector for £29.99 - available at all good Apple Shops
