My brother wasn't impressed as it took two hours to clear security this morning, for his flight from Manchester to Vegas. They are obviously being more careful today.

The spokesman said: "It is clear that documentation has not been checked correctly at security and the boarding gate.
"The boy went through full security screening, so the safety of passengers and the aircraft was never compromised."

This plane incident is an extreme one, but a lot of kids do go off on one in a huff or so, and don't give a damn to the fact that their families would be worried for them and how they themselves would manage the next day. To take a step like that, where one doesn't give a **** to his/her own security, one must be very upset, insecure, dissociated, detatched and lost or just deluded. Sad indeed. Worse when its a child doing one. Some people will find it easy to label the child as a brat, but its not always true. It could be a very unhappy child who could do with some help.

It is not just about finding 10.001ml bottles of liquid in someone's hand baggage (or whatever the security theatre rules currently demand)

I think it demonstrates a bit of "pizzazz" in his personal makeup. I really can't blame him for trying it on and effectively succeeding, certainly in the first part of his deception anyway. I can still remember the bit of a thrill it was when I used to catch the train to London by myself to visit my Auntie when I was was somewhat younger than him.
What it has demonstrated of course was the lackadasical way in which several members of the checking staff were doing their jobs and obviously making assumptions. They deserve any blame that is going for that at least.
