Are we being ripped off with the recession?
I understand things have gone up in price due to increasing costs etc but how can they charge 50p for a packet of POLO's...
I need a lot of change to pay & display (can't use phones before anyone asks) so I try to buy the cheapest thing in the petrol stations while trying to get as much change as possible and I can't belive some of the prices.
A snickers 80p WTF
I'm just wondering if some shops are exploiting the fact that prices have gone up to charge what they like... Shell in Watford £2.09 for a bag of Haribo - Tesco down the road £1.09

My Son's girlfriend of 5 yrs & her Father both work in a large B&Q in Kent. Her Father is the General Manager of the store.
They sell the B&Q brand club hammers for £ 10.48 each.
These are bought in from China in bulk at EIGHT PENCE each.
Packets of screws and nails have even larger profit margins than the club hammers.

In the a40 services earlier, modern day highway men, wh smith selling £1.00 cadbury chocolate bars for £2.59 !!
I found so many exaggerated prices, 20 **** £8.99 that took a double take.
Strangely the fuel was only 1p more expensive than I usually pay ....

More fool people for shopping there. Granted the range we sell where I work may not be as large, but the same 5ltr tins are only £29.95. Just to pick up on the club hammer, £5.99. And I can safely say, even at those prices, we will still be making a nice profit.
Thing is, a lot of people don't want to shop around, and some will just refuse to go into certain stores. While people feel/act that way, certain retailers will continue to over charge.
To me, B&Q is much like Halfords, if I need something quickly, their range is fairly decent and they tend to be open when I finish work, I have to accept the prices.

You should try the WHSmith type shops in hospitals, everything is 20-30% more expensive than the high street. Nice to see them take advantage of their captive market of nhs workers and relatives/patients

I have seen prices go mad in bnq in last 8 months.even at trade price its dearer than everywhere else.8 months ago I paid £23 each for 10ltr sandtex paint....now its £47 !!!

I think we get ripped off on a daily basis TBH
We get ripped of on prices and tax
we get taxed on our wages and then everything we buy with our already taxed wages.
At least we are not as bad as Norway, I was there 6 years ago and I was £2 to buy a mars bar. LOL

I am terrible for this.
As for the 8p hammer argument, surely they work out more than this once you include transport, lightening, wages, storage etc?
