Default HOW fast do wild roses grow?

There's on in our front garden, a rose gone wild.
At the end of June I cut it right back, including one shoot that was tapping against the bedroom window on the first floor.

I've just been out today and cut back several shoots at least ten feet long, and the big one which is over TWELVE feet.
And some of it's thorns are 20mm long

It's grown to that extent in two months and a week.

Bl**dy thing must have triffid sap in it.

I was cutting one of our rose's back this afternoon as well, and took well over an hour! My grandfather used to pay a gardener to carefully prune it so that it "trailed" up the brick wall nicely.

Now I just hack it back year after year with a hedge cutter

I've just started to try and make mine grow up the back wall, trying to Mae it so people won't think about climbing over. Do you tie it to the wall or just only cut the ones along the floor.

The gardener would cut the stem at specific points and angles to help the direction, and also ran wire across the wall so that it would grow behind the wire and not flop down.

Anyhow, I just hack it with a hedge cutter these days

The more you cut it back, the stronger it will grow.

Blast!

Mind, we had a kid in our class who believed that about his pubes. Shaved them regular and ended up having to wrap his nuts in cotton wool because of the scratchy-ness

And yes, this was the same kid who once wiped his *rse with a lump of fibreglass wool he found........
