Only eating on one day a week?

If you're going for any kind of major calorie-restriction, you need to avoid blood-sugar peaks and troughs for two very important reasons. 1, as already stated by several above, it's the only way of making sure you don't start keeling over or passing out without warning (imagine if it happened while you're driving, up a ladder, handling a power tool - not exactly safe). 2, it's the best way of making sure you're not constantly craving food, or getting sudden overwhelming urges to splurge on massive helpings of pies, chips, and other comfort food (rendering all previous efforts to go without completely pointless at a stroke).
Finally, the best way to maintain steady blood sugar on minimal calorie intake is to eat as little as you possibly can to just barely satisfy your hunger, at very regular intervals of 3 to 4 hours.
As regards whole days without food, there's some pretty good evidence that once a week is actually good for health generally, and can help longevity. Recent Horizon program on the subject here:

Not sure how well that would play with other full-time changes to dietary intake though.

You'd think you'd lose weight, but what actually happens is your body will panic and save the food you eat on that 1 day as fat because it doesnt know when it will be getting fed again, and instead of burning the fat in your body for the energy it needs, it will begin to break down and use muscle instead.

You'd be better off on Snazy's LighterLife dust diet, rather than just eating 1 day per week. At least you'd get all of the nutrients your body needs.

Most recommended 8 weeks, before gradually introducing healthier foods. Some of it is to give your body a period where it gets used to not consuming sugar and other sources of cravings. Then you need time to reprogram your brain into new habits.
Have a search for Protikee or Kee forums, some people say they get the ****s over the first few days, may not be helpful if you're at work and not close to a toilet. Probably not as bad as getting Delhi belly in Egypt though.

It's neither exclusively one or the other. The body needs more than just raw calories to sustain itself, so it's true that at least some muscle or other tissues are likely to be used up (or at the very least, whither and/or get weaker), because of the nutrients they contain which fat doesn't. Exactly how much would depend on the type and level of your activity while going without food.

also it doesnt work, your body is wise to it and switches to callorie saving mode.
decent diet and regular excerise is by far the best way to loose weight, anything else is faddy and can in fact be dangerous.
other option is try food poisening, 1.5 stone in 5 days
p.s. that was a joke, its no fun and not good for you.

i have been doing a course called turbo fit formula for the past 2 months , its a culmination of diet , excersise , basically diet wise , no wheat, dairy, sugar, caffine carbs and booze ! yes its sounds **** but after the first week you can see the results and still eat good healthy food , steak, chicen , veg , nuts , fish etc , 3 mornings a week doing high intense workouts , pressups ,squats, lunges,on the spot sprints boxing in 30 second bursts, its good fun and i lost 8ibs the first week and overall around 2 stone , i have now started adding normal food back in once or twice a week everyone loves a curry etc and a few beers at the weekend , i have maintained the weight loss and now hit the gym a few times a week to keep me going , couldnt believe the amount i lost in such a short period of time

I may have missed the reason - but you say that weight loss is not the aim of doing this - so what is ?
Need to know the aim before commenting on the method......though in general a starvation plan (not eating for 6 days) isn't very good for you whatever your trying to achieve.
As mentioned all that will happen is that the body will get shocked into "survival state" and that's something you really don't want.

When I was around 26 year old I didn't eat for three months, the only thing I had was milk and water, I worked 5/6 days a week sometimes 7, minimum shift time was 10 hours, mostly around 12 hours tho, (manual labour too, not sat at a desk) I never felt tired, weak or even hungry, I lost over three stone but felt fine :-)

Your body will end up in a catabolic state if you stop eating!!
Try eating every 4-6 hrs.
Stick to around 1500 cals a day.
Carbs first thing in the morning then drop them off.
Eat a small amount of protein before bed! Eg ... Cottage cheese, nuts , quark , shake etc. this will keep your body in a positive nitrogen balance.

You will have done irreversible damage to your digestive, nervous and muscular systems. Your stomach digestive acids would have eaten you from inside out not having solid food to digest.......how are you still alive !!??
