HUMAX HD FOX-T2
Anyone got one of these?
Any good?
I know it's about 3 years old now - but still seems the best/cheapest way into FreeviewHD?

Second best on the market, but only to the PVR version - the HDR-FOX-T2
Have a look here - loads of potential - http://hummypkg.org.uk/

You can hack the firmware of the Fox to act as the HDR-Fox-T2 PVR, assuming you have a USB HDD plugged in. Remote recording, HDHCP bypass/decoding and DNLA server/streaming/client support make it a cracking piece of kit tbh.

Yep, we've had one about 6m. Installed new firmware, attached a portable 1TB and we're laughing. Hardly watch TV, but when we do and it's in HD, we can appreciate it. Just have to remember we can record now too.

Does the Firmware Upgrades come over the airways - or do you need to input via a USB?
Can I simply connect a HDD to the USB and it will record onto that - automatically?

They'll install themselves over-the-air as and when they're pushed out by Humax. Or you can do it yourself with a USB stick.
Or you can download a nice modified firmware package (see my link above) which will transform the box massively.

Will my warranty suffer if I modify the firmware?
I'm one for keeping things standard as they tend to run better that way - these pages are full of blown engines and the like, because someone thought that Subaru don't know what they are doing ...... and amend things so that they get 850BHP out of the poor 2Litre engine

I've heard reports that the firmware doesn't affect the warranty - however there is a nice uninstaller if you feel you need to remove it before sending the unit back.

Copy the firmware to the USB and follow instructions. Can't find the link the now, but i'm sure it was AV Forums. Very simple, changed nothing, just allowed me to record.
EDIT: When i've time, i'm going to look into a Custom TV Portal. That's a slightly different matter, but the benefits of iplayer etc etc are too enticing.

Thanks ...... £100 more gets a HDD recorder built in, I wonder if that's worth it - we don't record anything at the moment - but might if it was easy to do?

It really was a doddle. The series link recording is pretty good too, because our TV is not on much, we haven't missed things we would've otherwise forgotten to record.
