Or do we? Just seen Boateng interview on channel 4
We were in Zambia Feb and going back this Jan, the place is alive with Chinese building roads, can we not compete ?? This is one of the fastest growing economies in the world right now.

Your having a laugh arnt you
Fastest growing population more like ,
We tried to stem that in the 80's by dropping 10,000,000 condoms
On them , but they put them on the wrong head .
Mind you china ain't far behind in the breeding stakes ,
If you know of 50,000 Brits that will the equivalent of the M1
For a bowl of rice a day / then yeah , we might get the contract

Really ? I thought china were still relatively keen on controlling birth rate?
A bowl of rice could well be better than nothing in twenty years time the way we're going

The company who I work for are undergoing a massive project in Tangiers, Morocco. So it is happening, think it depends on what sort of business you are in.
Personally think we may as well stay away from Africa in general, they'll only ruin any good that gets invested in the countries knowing how corrupt all the leaders are. Can help a continent that can't help itself. Might sound small minded but it's the toilet of the world and no amount of money is going to change that

The Chinese stuff in Africa is Chinese funded and, probably, with huge backhanders.
UK can't compete with that. But UK does go for other aid funded projects but it's a competitive market.

Yes - China is pouring vast quantities of money into Africa for two primary reasons....
A - Mineral Wealth
B - Africa is the last untapped cheap labour market left on earth.
The chinese labour market is slowly realising western ambitions & lifestyles... therefore wages will inevitably rise slowly in line with Western rates.
Africa is still untapped as a labour market, the chinese will move their manufacturing there, as we moved ours to China....
There was very interesting program one evening on R4 about this.
The chinese are simply speculating to accumulate

Interesting example my girlfriends niece was producing large amount free range chickens to sell from her premises to sell on. Then some chinkie ( no disrespect ) starts massive battery farm down the road, and of course they're cheaper and people have to buy them

There may be scope for agricultural development with UK interests but then it stops raining for two years and your screwed.
I think in a decade or so they might wake up to using solar power for energy - for desal' plants etc. And energy for refrigeration and water extraction in the sticks would be of huge benefit to all.

Some industries are already out there. De La Rue, a big security print company (prints your passports and some currencies) has a big place in Kenya. Assuming it hasnt been burnt down yet.
The factory in High Wycombe was sacreficed for this business move.

Exactly as I said - Africa is the last untapped cheap labour resource on the planet.
