Exclamation Diobesity epidemic within 10 years

According to Diabetes UK, 700,000 more people will develop diabetes within the next 8 years as a direct result of the rising levels of obesity in the UK.

http://www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us/...end-of-decade/

That would bring the number of diabetes sufferers to a staggering 4.4 million.

Are you one of the people eating themselves fatter and fatter every year?

If you are, do you still hope that diabetes will happen to somebody else, not you?

It makes me laugh, people who dont live a healthy lifestyle will cause strain and millions of pounds of funding through the NHS and yet, the government have just put 20% VAT on sport supplements for people who do want to lead a healthy lifestyle.. Go figure

No of course you dont, but supplements are taken by people who have the motivation to get up off their ***** and lead a healthier lifestyle compared to those fat, lazy, couch sitting, excuse giving people who cant help themselves by using a little common sense

Once again David you've lost me. Who is saying that somebody like Redgrave is lazy? Or are you in a round about way saying that he definitely doesn't take any supplements?

I'm surprised it isn't more, some weeks I diagnose a few new ones in my sleepy little handful of semi-rural villages.

John, do you think that people just don't realise that diabetes is a very real possibility if they can't stop themselves eating, or do most people know the risks but think that an insulin jab or two is a price worth paying for the extra pie or slice of cake? What's the awreness level out there?

Forgive my ignorance and my inability to google, but what are the symptoms of diabetes?

Tiredness, weight gain, need to wee, thirst, alongside a layer of fat rolling over your trousers in many cases.

No proper thirst, and a noticeable increase in the frequency of loo visits. But yes, 4.4m will be just the confirmed cases, not all the people who have diabetes but live in denial. Plenty of those around too.

Mixture of awareness and motivation. Don't be astonished at people being unwilling to change their lifestyle because of risk factors when many don't make any meaningful change with an actual diagnosis.

Anyone got a link to a list of what "supplements" are now VATable?

IMHO, whilst it does seem somewhat two-faced after the great summer of sport (is that really a surprise though?), I can't see VAT on supplements stopping anyone getting into sport or even just fitter.
