From my previous thread about when the hornets decided to invade my cooker hood, I finally got around the clearing the dead ones out.
Thankfully, there WERE no live ones.
Here are two pics of my "collection" so far:

The top pic shows their size, but remember that they are scrunched up because they are dead, their TRUE size is around 15mm bigger![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
There were thirty in the cooker hood, God know how many will be in the chimney when I take the cover off.

We have an old apple tree in our works car park and the first time I really saw one of these things up close and personal was when it was chomping on an apple on the ground, then a wasp landed next to it. It was like comparing an aircraft carrier to a rubber dingy.

Thing is, they are FAR less likely to sting than a wasp, in the same circumstances.
But if one does.....
I see them in the garden eating fallen apples, peaches etc. You can get really close and they are VERY interesting to watch.
But you mustn't BREATHE on one, or it'll go for you
They sense the carbon dioxide, apparently.
Who knew? Hornets wanting to keep the carbon footprint down,

Hornets seem very friendly to me. We used to get loads at work and they'd be a pleasure compared to wasps.
Saying that, they certainly aren't friendly to wasps! I had a wasp nest in my garden (which you'd think would be a problem but they actually blanked us and stuck to their flight path) one day I went for a look and the nest was not active. After a bit of prodding, still nothing. I ended up splitting the nest open and every one of the wasps in there was dead. All that remained was a couple of very drowsey hornets! They'd wiped out the entire nest.
