Need glasses apparently. The optician says it's my age, so not happy. Anyway, seen some frames I like and they're going to cost best part of £300 if I get them from Vision Express, so has anyone bought glasses online and can recommend me somewhere???

you prob just need reading glasses (+1 or +1.5 etc),

I went down the designer route until I realised Primark did them for £1.50 a pop


and I have about 10, dotted around the house

sounds like rubbish to me

i need +1 for reading anything closer than 14" to 16" - everying else is fine


annoying because I have to constantly take them on an off -- hence why i have so many lying around

I haven't yet bought my reading glasses online. I always went to Speccys before as you can try their trendy frames before you buy. You can buy two designer pairs at Speccy for £125. They have now p!ssed me off big style, so I will be going to another local optician who everyone seems to rave and rant about. Apparently he is very caring, and he knows what he is doing. One has to be careful with one's eyes.

How would one know what the frame will look like on him/her, if one buys them online? Can you upload your pic on the seller's website, and try their frames on your picture etc.?

Those Primark and B&M prescription glasses shouldn't be worn, I hear. Apparently they impair your vision more for being cheap and tacky. The people who say so may be wrong, though.

spec savers, 2 for one and normaly around £100 ish even for designer.

Mines were 180 ish but im blind as a bat and had various options including polorising

I hate our local Spec Savers with a passion.
I wear daysoft contact lenses that I order online. Because Spec Savers can't match them on price (£12 a month), they wouldn't offer a prescription for them. Then they said, that I could go blind if I kept wearing them.

Went to Vision Express for their opinion and they said that they were fine.

I tried some on in the store yesterday and selected 3 pairs I liked. I can remember which ones they are, so looked online to see if they were cheaper, and guess what? They were.... Of course you don't get someone helping you out etc. but might be the way to go.

They look good, Clare. They are definitely cheaper than Vision Expresss but you could get two designer glasses for cheaper than one Selectspecs glasses i.e. for £125 at Specsavers, and you get to try them. You don't really need anyone's help, as a staff member hanging over your head would only annoy you while you are trying to strike a pose with them on, in the mirror. Specsavers may not have this specific frame you want, though. I lose and break my glasses quite a bit. So for me, Speccy does the job with 2-for-1 offer. What I am not happy about is their eye test. Its good to get your eyes tested from some decent optician, and then one can buy 2-for-1 frames+lenses at Specsavers.

I used speccyfoureyes for some distance glasses for driving. -1.5 IIRC. £18 delivered. Wife says I look like a dutch lesbian wearing them which is a bonus.

I couldn't fault the eye test at Vision Express, very thorough indeed, plus I saw the same Optician as I did 5 years ago. Bet some of the chains don't retain staff very long.... But the glasses are too expensive! Like the Dior ones. Need to chat the old man up a bit

Other half bought some Dior specs from there too. Great service and price.

I had my eye test at Specsavers and passed on the details to the above.

More people would go online if the Opticians were obliged to give you the Pupil Measurement .... I asked them for it and they said get stuffed!!!

As far as I know,you are entitled to have a copy of the measurements that the optician made of your eyes and then you could use that to get glasses made up anywhere.

I was given a copy of the measurements without even having to ask for them. I believe that you are fully entitled to them.

By the way, I found my Dior glasses even cheaper online at £116! Including lenses and coatings. Bargain. Husband thinks they're a bit geeky though

Clare, they are still more expensive than Specsavers, as you can get two for one there. What if you break one, or lose one? Yo will have another one to fall back on, and break that one as well.

Honestly, try Speccy's frames first. They are not bad. They used to be funkier, but they are toned down a bit now. However, they still have nice range. Lenses are included in the price. I think they charge extra tenner for coating; may be not- I can't remember. Their range starts from £45, I think. Look, Banks even got himself a second hand pair from there for as little as £18! But you seem to like designer ones. You can get two designer ones for £125.

Don't get the 2 for 1, i only ever wear one pair at a time and have had this pair last seven years ( vision express )

I'll see if I can drag the old man into town tomorrow and try some on. I was thinking my second pair could be sunglasses as I wear them about 90% of the time I'm out of the house - must have light sensitive eyes!
