I'm on nights, wanting to watch this too!

Mrs ex Vauxhall has been asked to record it, but knowing her she will probably miss the first ten minutes as ruddy usual

This...

This dramatic new documentary follows an international team of scientists, experts and elite pilots as they deliberately crash land a 170-seat Boeing 727 passenger jet to provide a once-in-a-generation chance to study the mechanics of a plane crash in real time.

Better chance of survival if you sit near the back. Isn't that why the flight recorder is fitted in the rear?

That depends on if the pilot decides to handbrake it and go in backwards

And it was still a more pleasant flight than Ryanair, that was more a dodgy landing, had worse at Aberdeen on a windy day.

I picked seat 7A as I would have done for real on that config of aircraft, near the front for quietness and quick exit at the airport, at a window for the view, and in economy cos I'm cheap. If picking based on safety, I figured the rear might be dangerous/unpredictable with tail mounted engines, so would have gone near an over-wing exit, but I don't(/didn't!) pick airline seats based on safety.

"Seat 7A was catapulted 150m from the aircraft at impact"!

I thought the rear was the safest but in the programme they said that is the most common landing for an air crash but sometimes the rear hits the ground first.

So maybe, the middle is the safest place?

I picked 14F as it is a typical seat I would pick, close to the wing but still a good view out of the window

I was always told one of the safer areas on a plane is actually over the wings

Mythbusters Brace or Not show was good, similar kind of results really. still a little inconclusive as both can cause injuries which can stop you getting off the plane after landing and one of the API programmes the other night said the majority of deaths are because folk can't get off the planes quick enough due to broken limbs or back injuries etc

all very interesting though

I found the program fascinating, there was much more involved than I first thought.
I've flown in one of those old Boeings out Vancouver BC back in the 80's, so sad to see the end of an old bird, but all in a good cause.

It made me laugh when the investigator commented on the passengers being worried to see the under carriage bouncing around near the window, I suspect having just fallen out of the sky everyone on board would already be shi**ing themselves so a wheel outside would be the least of their worries!

Must be such a weird feeling for the last two on board as the guys in the chase plane took over on remote and they calmly walked to the back of the plane to bail out.

Shame the super fast chase plane broke down, they described it as the Ferrari of planes, similar reliability too then

Was a good watch. When I saw the adverts for it I thought they had set autopilot to crash it but I'm guessing there are so many failsafes to stop that happening or so difficult that it was less hassle to setup the remote control rig.

Problem with the wings is the amount of fuel if something sparks up. I am thinking in between middle and the rear.

Never inflate your lifejacket until your outside the plane. Cost a lot of people thier lives on that Hijacked Ethiopian Airlines plane that the pilot crashed landed off the east cost of africa straight in front of a tourist beach.

truth is no 2 craches are the same - its your dodnal duck really, although id still opt for a seat at emergency exit.

some aircraft have cartwheeled when crashed, if there is a fuel fire on crashes its going to be pretty disasterous.

thankfully we have learned a lot of lessons from past incidents, and there are many protocols for saftey been implemented subsequently. and horrific incidents are relativley low

I am flying back home to the UK in a few hours, I hope that I do not have to find out which seat is the safest.

Just watched a PVR recording of the programme.

What i found incredible was the fact that the engines carried on working after the crash!! And that they could have carried on for ages!!

That just has to be scarey for any surviving passengers.

I wouldn't worry about your plane crashing, odds are that you are more likely to be involved in a car crash on the way to the airport.
