seems abit bizarre with the amount of money these things rake in.
Does seem a bit ironic that it is going to cost 600k to remove them but some will be left to deter speeders. How will it deter speeders when everyone knows they are turned off and decommisioned

This happened in various other places a while back (Jez Clarkson even metioned it as they turned off the ones in his area). A lot have been turned back on now though. It`ll only be temporary I bet.

Quite cleverly the conservatives didn't want to continue with the speed camera partnerships so removed the self funding which was making some ex police officers very wealthy. Local authorities now realise that without the profits they are not interested in maintaining these cameras. It was never about the money, yeah right.

I'm not sure that the law abiding motorist would care whether these cameras were there, or not ...... it's a complete irrelevance to them.
To criminals and those wishing the break the law, however, I suspect this is very exciting news ...............

It would make me safer as I can just get on and drive. I like to drive to the limit and find that when cameras are around I am looking far to much down at my speedo, making sure that I dont creep over instead of just looking ahead and driving along with everyone else.

North Yorkshire doesn't have any fixed cameras. As a result everyone dodders around at a snail's pace looking for the camera vans and unmarked cars instead! West Yorkshire, Bradford in particular, has loads of fixed cameras...and we've all heard about driving standards there!

As said above, I can get on with the business of driving to the conditions instead of watching the speedo and worrying that I may have missed a speed limit sign and get a ticket for exceeding an arbitrary limit. The fun really has gone out of driving in a lot of places where unnecessary 40 or 50 limits are imposed on dual carriageways in the countryside.
I'm glad that the whole social experiment is coming to an end. Self supporting SCPs in their new buildings paid for in the main by unwitting citizens, not dangerous drivers.

If you find it too challenging to drive to a speed limit then I would suggest that you hand your Licence into the nearest Police Station and do your Driving Test once more.
Dear me, why is it so difficult for some people to operate their vehicles in a safe and controlled manner?
Is it because they're retarded?

Pete, you are confusing being able to drive your car at a certain speed when you know what that speed is, and trying to drive your car at a certain speed when that speed is unclear due to poor signage or being an inappropriate limit set for the road. On top of which it is better to concentrate on the conditions and hazards rather than following an arbitrary limit that should be presented as a guide to the appropriate speed.

I'm staggered by how many people are claiming that they are dangerous drivers as they are always looking for speed traps !!!
Which kind of makes my point that speeders, generally, cannot drive properly.
I have Cruise Control which I set at the speed limit ..... this allows me to give 100% concentration onto the road (not that I had a problem driving to the speed limits anyway).

I didnt know anyone was claiming to be a dangerous driver. I also dont know what my EFA post has to do with it. I am, however, very pleased to hear that you have cruise control and that you are able to give 100% concentration to the road, by the sound of it you need to.
