My Dad has some monitor system that costs something like £30 a month.... ridiculas and keeps going wrong..

mate looked into it all over and in the end went for a Yale one that you fit yourself... sounds like a dodge... but it is actually pretty good (I am staying there at the moment so am living with the keypad etc)
All the parts are cable free, you screw the control pannel to the wall and the sensors to the doors etc and it even rings numbers on a list and plays your recorded message if set off..
Was under £300 and took him a day to install.. including the box outside... currently been running for 3months or so with no false alarms..
If I needed one I think I'd go for this one... as good as my Dad's expsnsive one without the false alarms...

Wwwaaaaaarrggggghhh responsibility!

I think you will be happy with it mate.

If I ever need one at home I shall be doing the same for sure.

Wondered whether an expert would have said the DIY ones are crap etc but nothing so must be pretty good...

Good luck

As long as the wireless ones meet the appropriate British Standard then they should be ok. I know a few people with wireless alarms and they have never had any problems.

well my current alarm was pro fitted and while it hasnt been a problem i fail to see where the £1000 + went???

it seems to have half the features of the yale one- and things like being able to set the alarm via the telephone are way beyond mine!!!

i reckon for £500ish i can fit a very extensive Yale with smoke alarm, second control panel, etc

Tiggs

ps- if i get burgled i'll want a word with you are your suggestions

I have the Comfort home control panel.
It does so much it's unbelievable.
www.comfort.org.uk
Fully programmable, home answering machine, controls my lights, rings me if its getting dark and garage door is open.
If the alarms armed and somebody rings front door, it rings me on mobile so I can talk to the person,,etcetc

Tiggs,

the Yale HSA3500 wirefree communicating alarm (the one that phones people automatically) was only GBP150 at Homebase recently (plus extra for additional PIRs, door contacts, smoke alarms etc. of course).

See http://www.yale.co.uk/alarms_consume...armsframe.html for info on the alarms and add-ons.

Tiggs I think he was either implying you're cool but simple or hot and hard....

Don't think I want to know which!!!

Why does your decision have to be made today all of a sudden?

If you're going to fit it yourself you'll have to wait 'til you've moved in, unpacked, put up the shelves, filled the fishtank, built an enclosure for the dogs, built another enclosure for the kids, built a third enclosure for Vicky, flown your kite.....

....it'll be November before you need one
