Tax avoidance
Someone I know got a letter today from the tax man saying they have no records of them paying tax since 2007 and can they supply receipts etc.
Granted they haven't.
My question is this....
They earn a max of £250 a week on this second job but pay tax & NI on the first full time job.
What do you think will happen. Jail? large fine???
The amount varys weekly as they collect money off people and the more they collect the more they earn.
Granted they haven't.
My question is this....

Denial won't hold much water if those that paid them are questioned. They'll (the payers) will rightly claim tax liability and payment rested with the payee, as the second job appears a self employed venture. Or HMRC can just refer to this thread, £250 a week since 2007.

yeah once the taxman gets its teeth in to you best bet is to hope you have cash laying around to pay what's due
only the rich can avoid the taxman it seems.

They work for provident. I won't comment on my views but they offer short term loans to people who can't get loans because of their rating. The agent goes to them and if they miss a payment they don't get a fine.
Yes the interest may be a million % and I guess there are some agents who exploit the vulnerable (doesn't this happen with any service?) but they know exactly how much they will be paying in total before they sign.
The £250 is a MAX some weeks it may be £60. I'm just curious to see / hear what fines people have heard others in a similar boat getting.
