This was discussed on The Chris Evans Breakfast show a while ago - strangely they do have a Christmas Special, but it's being broadcast in February... work that one out!

James May was on the one show and he was saying it had been put back until March.

On the same Radio 2 interview mentioned above, they also said they had signed a three year contract. I would say that after that they are bordering on being too old, so perhaps it'll be the last three years with those presenters.

You can tell the episodes of recent years have had lesser budgets to use, but as stated the top gear brand must be worth millions!
And Ben Collins had a dig or two on 5th gear lol

Considering it been going for ten years in the current format, I'd say its done pretty damn good. Many other programs haven't lasted that long beforethey change format, presenter/actors, or simply stopped filming.
I think part of the issue with the acting and blatent setups/stunts is its old, and been done far too many times before. Sure repetition of some stunts/gags is funny, but over-repetition of it gets tedious, and thats the current problem.
I still love the show but IMO the three stooges concept is too tired and needs mixing up a bit...there is only so much stuff you can bounce off three people before running out of new things to throw at them.
So they need some fresh blood, not as a replacment, but more of an addition. However it'd have to be some pretty strong characters to do this and someone who can bounce stuff off and ad-lib as well as being a car fanatic. I've seen Top Gear US and Oz and their presenters are flat in comparison - the guys playing the characters over there are too weak and flat to make the concept work like it does on the UK version.
Having said that, I'd like to throw Rowen Atkinson into it, see what he could come up with, maybe add Rich Hall into the mix too.
