Farmer shoots at burglar's van, but gets arrested and bundled into cell.
Saw this in the newspaper yesterday, but the interview is interesting.
A 21 year old farmer shoots at a burglar's van as it try's to run down the farmer and his Mother. The farmer has 4 months bail and all the hassle from the Police, along with himself and his mother being in a cell over night.
The burglar gets charged £100 fine.
I hope that eventually the balance of the law between burglars and the victims gets corrected and that police and judges can use their own judgement of how much reasonable force can be exercised. Obviously in this case, the police were simply following standard procedures, when really they should have used judgement and initiative.

Not saying i agree with those robbing him should only get £100 fine, should have a harsher penalty IMO

I can’t see much happening there if no injuries sustained. He may get his SGC revoked. You have to ask how he came to have the gun if he was trying to protect his mother. Surely running inside to grab your shotgun takes a lot longer than pushing the old dear to safety.
As with most things we won’t get the full detail.

It is as though when any kind of an incident occurs, the coppers are looking for any way they can charge someone, maybe to help with their targets, regardless of what happened and who instigated the problem in the first place.
There does not seem to be any kind of common sense applied to a situation. Surely they are not that mindless are they?

Have you lot not even watched the BBC interview video? Jesus christ. You all seem very quick to make a judgement.
The van apparently tried to reverse and them both over (two attempts) as the farmer tried to block the exit. He also had the shotgun on him already at the time because he was using it for pest control.
A ******* £100 fine? £100? How on earth is that going to deter any burglar from attempting burglary again? It should be more like £5000. That would soon make them think twice.
I sometimes wonder who's side you are on.

In that situation, if they were in a van and tried to run me over, I would probably run out the way and shoot at the van- pretty much like what this farmer did. If they still tried to drive it at me, then I would aim for the windows at them.
If a burglar came at me with a knife or weapon, then yes, I'd shoot them point-blank and they would probably die, not that I would really want to ever kill someone.
But obviously, who knows what you would do in a life or death situation without much time to really think about it.

Oh I agree all right, but certain people called me out for wishing terminal cancer on thieves yet here we are wishing them dead and it's all OK to do so.... the double standards of some people on SN never ceases to amaze me (not people on this thread I might add)

Thing with this is... Surely if he stayed calm he could have at least got round the side of the van to get a shot through the window?
The police should have taken the thieves back to the farm, duck taped them to the side of the van in a comedy stylie and then let the mother shoot the sh*t out them with a potato cannon.... Just for the crack really
Thieving morons

Ok then, well i hope the thief gets cancer, goes into remission, gets cured and then someone takes him out with an elephant gun...... one limb at a time.

Thieves make normal hard working folks lives a misery, the police are too easy on them so they keep turning to crime and carry on making law abiding hard working people's lives a misery, tbh I would throw in a little torture before any shooting took place.
There's simply no excuse for scumbags using crime to get what they want, I would put a peg on their nose set their feet on fire then give them a bucket of petrol to put the fire out ( they won't smell it's petrol cos of the peg on their nose, see)
