Having dropped kerb installed by the council, any ideas of cost involved?
I have begun the application today to have the kerb dropped outside my house, it seems pretty staight forward and have been told by the planning department that they are OK with it and they see no reason why it would be declined. So.. It looks like a few forms to fill and a bit of waiting and a bill!
I was told that the council I am with no longer allowed third party contractors to do the actual works, so therefore must use their guys
Has anyone had one fitted recently (using council contractors) that can give me a rough idea of cost involved, I'm after an "in and out" basically a double width one. No grass to go over, just a normal width pavement.
The council is central Beds.

A few years back I had a quote off a contractor to drop my kerb, they quoted £900.They told me to contact local authority to gain permission. The LA then told me they would do the job for £450,it was done quickly too.

The company I work for are an approved contractor for northampton county council from memory the licence todo the job is about £170 and then it's just how much is involved as to how much it cost

You normally have to work it out on the cost of 2 men doing the job and then factor in 2 others stood around with their hands in their pockets when getting the Council to do it !!

I did that Les ..... just like everyone did in the 50's, 60's, 70's ..... I got a letter from the Council telling me off!!!
I suspect that the gutter cleaner guy grassed me up .... or a neighbour who is a known 'poke-your-nose-in' type

My council wanted in excess of £1000 and a fair chunk was non refundable if turned down IIRC. There was a raft of paperwork too. I didn't bother, seemed extortionate to me.

One of the main reasons is to prevent the same guy that lives about 10 doors down from parking his LWB high top van right outside my house, for days on end. So leaving the kerb won't work.

We have just given the go ahead for the council in Milton Keynes to drop ammeter of ours and move a lamp post 12feet so that we can make our driveway suitable for 2 cars.
The bill came back at £1200 and this was £400 for a meter dropped down and the rest on the post.
The council however did say that we could get our own contractors in but they had to prove they were X,Y,Z. Tbh I thought £1200 was quite cheap.
Oh and as above. Will stop the ******* up the road parking outside mine grrrr.

I don't mean to sound funny about the van thing, but in my last house one of my neighbours used to park not one but two minibuses outside my house. Just bringing back bad memories.

had to do just the same at my place with dropping the curb, the then next door neighbour had a transit and an escort van and thought it was funny to block us in(did it for 3 years,1 bank holiday weekend we couldn't get off the drive as he'd gone away this was final straw)*** tried it on even after we dropped curb right accross our front,he wasn't laughing when the tow truck was sent to tow it away(but i was),he moved not long after(****)new neighbour is great.cost about £600 to do 6 curb stones

Agreed, but if there was a driveway and dropped kerb, I'd at least have a reason to ask them (politely to start with) not to do so. If I said anything now he would be well within his rights to tell me to do one.
