I actually keep forgetting about this, but totally agree....heros the lot of them, but Ranulph especially considering his age and all what he has achieved so far. Here's hoping they all come back home safely.

I'm following it. I didn't know much about him until his interview on Top Gear a few years ago when he was the 'Star in the Car' and Clarkson was describing some of his achievements. I haven't read his book yet, but it's definately on my to do list.

I've "liked" the page on Facebook (yeah, I know, Facebook! ) and get daily updates. A few of the crew are writing blogs and some nice pics have been posted. I was watching the stop frame videos of the equipment being unloaded on to the ice shelf the other day.

Les, I can see that but they do put themselves into that situation, ok on one had it is adventure, pioneering spirit, mind over matter, determination etc etc, on the other hand its a mad old berk who has had a heart attack, lost several toes/bits of fingers putting himself and others in a dangerous situation for no good reason, i know they are doing stuff for charity and will raise a lot of money but I really cant see the point, I do wonder whether this is his way of going out how he wants, captain Scott style.

Here was my link of them leaving London just before Xmas.

J4CKO, part of the plan if something goes "t*ts up" is they have enough supplies/fuel etc to sit it out, also they are going to be using a "known" routing but saying that I do know a section of it and it's pretty dangerous! and we did it in daylight.
Just to highlight the massive dangers down there, http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/int...rctica/1079174 basically even in the "summer/autumn" it has taken 4 days to reach the crash site.
