New York at Christmas
I'm hoping to book up a holiday for Christmas this year to New York.
Having never been there before, can any of you recommend a hotel or two and hopefully a couple of nice restaurants?
Had the last two years at the outlaws house, this year I plan on being selfish and hopefully jetting off around the 22nd and coming back on the 28th or so.

It's a very expensive time to fly around Xmas flights, hotels.mega bucks to the USA.plus I think there visa laws have changed so you need to pay for one I think it last for two years.dont let me put you off though its a wonderful place to visit especially if it's your first time going.SJ.

I have been twice once for new year. I would say the best place to stay is near Time Square. There are loads of good places to eat within walking/cab distance.
As for things to do, depends what you like. A visit to the USS Intrepid is well worth it if you like your planes and battleships, Macy's is great for shopping and international visitors get 10% off everything ( the window decorations are also very good) obviously a visit to the usual Empire State Building, Central Park etc are all very good.

We stayed at the Affinia Manhattan which is directly opposite Madison Square Gardens and Penn Station which makes it very easy to get around. Only 5 minutes walk up to Times Square. Get the New York Pass-makes it much cheaper to do everything you want to do as once you've paid for that, you don't have to pay to go to all the usual sight seeing places. Also covers other things like walking tours-we did the movie tour of Central Park-great way to see it and appreciate what's there and also heroes of the WTC which was very very moving.
My favourite city in the whole world and I'd move there like a shot if I could. Enjoy!!

It's the home of the best steak according to Heston Blumenthal.
The fact that will be boobies is purely coincidental.
I recommend a New York pass, too. Good value and queue jump facility at many attractions.
I stayed at the HH Double Tree Suites, right on the corner of Time Square, opposite the TKTS booth.
And make sure you visit Shake Shack to taste a real burger

Stay over in New Jersey and get a boat across each day... I went at the beginning of December and was awesome, not too busy! Staying across the water means you can wake up to this each day...

You will enjoy it whatever you end up doing
I have been lucky enough to go twice....... so far, although wouldn't mind going again around xmas/new etc. Me and the G/F keep thinking rather than wasting money on **** here just for the sake of exchanging xmas presents with people, be selfish and go to NYC instead lol, not cheap though compared to other times of the year.
Things to see, well there’s loads, but as others have said, main things like:
Empire State building (day & night if you have time).
Helicopter ride - they only go over the river now, for obvious reasons.
Boat trip (can also go to liberty island although we didn't bother as I think they had stopped people going up the statue when we were last there so just had a look from the helicopter & boat ).
Ground Zero - Even having been there twice it's still hard to imagine what went on there.
Macy's - More like a HUGH Debenhams.
Bloomingdales - bit more expensive (equivalent to say Selfridges here I guess).
Central Park - don’t forget a visit to the Zoo while in there!
Time Square.
Loads of other things, each time we been only been for 3-4 nights as been going on to other places but depending on time you have you could also fit in a show etc too.
Last time we went we stayed in the Roosevelt Hotel. At the time the United Nations meeting was on and several of them were staying in the same hotel. Load of security around, body guards standing by windows at breakfast while the dignitaries had their breakfast, lol. One morning we came down in the lift and ended up sharing it with a couple of army generals of some sort and half a dozen body guards Walked down the street after leaving hotel and a load of blacked out vans came flying down the street in police escort with blokes hanging out the doors/windows with automatic weapons, was all very ‘movie like’ lol

I would also recommend the helicopter ride.
A couple if tips for you, we found that going up the rockafellar centre was better than the Empire State. The ques were alot shorter and you get a better view of New York from the rockafellar as the roof is flat whereas the Empire State has the rest of the tower going through the middle. The other tip is dont be affraid of using their Metro. We used it loads the second time we went and it run frequently and on time.
