Not the cost, the process which is so bloody awkward if you don't keep your tax current there's no surprise that people drive without it.
Renew you tax on or just before it expires - simple, just a frustrating rip-off but you accept that when you buy a Subaru![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
SORN the car and you're fcuked![Mad](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/mad.gif)
You cannot re-tax a SORNed car in advance. I want to get tax ready for the 1 Feb and as it is during the week I've tried to do it in advance. I can only apply for tax to start the 1 Feb from 31 Jan.
I work during the week so cannot get to the post office and my lunch-break is not long enough to get to my nearest post office.
If I tax online it'll take up to 5 days to arrive and because the vehicle has been SORNed I lose the waiver to drive for up to 5-days without displaying in date tax, that can only be extended to people who accept being ripped-off whilst not using their car and don't take a break in their taxed period.
Other option is that I pay for a disc back-dated to 1 Jan given that my car has not left my drive for the whole month.
What a ridiculously flawed system!

I think, just to make myself feel better I'll leave it SORNed for another month, then the MOT will run out and I can feel free when I blast up the A1 with no tax or MOT on my way to the test station

I would simply tax it online, first day of the month, and not give it a moments thought
This is what I do when I bring my car off sorn
Failure to display is a nonsense
