Severe Tooth Ache !
I dont know how much longer I can handle this!!! I left for work this morning with a slight tooth ache, by the time I got to work it was agony!
Im working on an island just now but managed to see a dentist at lunch time, he replaced a filling and said that would be me but a few hours later when the jag he gave me started wearing off and I got to my digs it is actually worse than it was before!
The whole side of my face is agony inc my ear eye and head, the only yhing that seems to help is cold water on it. Im maxing the paracetamol I have and just dont know what to do now cause the dentist here closed at 5 at the answer machine is telling me to call nhs24.
Anyone experienced this before? No shops here to buy any different painkillers either

Not much swealing only a small amount and I think thats from the clove oil I have been using. But yes a few things im reading online suggest an infection! Would the dentist not have picked this up?

That happened with a mate, where the dentist did not clean out the tooth before filling and pressure was building up inside the tooth. I used to find Anadin the best for tooth ache, hope this helps, other than that some neat whisky half a bottle should do.

You need to go to the dentist or doctor and get Metronidazole asap....
Then get an extraction root canal after the infection has cleared.
Do not try to do it yourself........
Also go to Boots, buy OraJel 20% benzacaine, plus Boots own Paracetamol and codeine. Red box...
If you delay you could end up with Trismus, or lockjaw, like i did for 6 months...... it don't go away once its set it!!!
If you really want to know what happened next when the sinus tube the infection made for itself went into my jaw......... PM me!

i had severe toothache skiing in France a couple of years ago
the pain was incredible and my cheek was very swollen,
went to the doctors surgery and he gave me a prescription of painkillers (for "hard" pain) and some antibiotics
the pain started getting better in less than 12 hours
antibiotics are just incredible

it will need an xray to determine if there is an underlying infection which it does sound like it is,your face may well swell within the next day if it does options are removal of the tooth or operation in the hospital under anesthetic, where they will cut above the tooth and attempt to drain and clean the affected area

Root canal will sometimes help, but otherwise get it whipped out, unless someone has had tooth pain they do not understand how bad it can be, I sympathise, when I had it I just got it extracted and the relief was enormous, overhwleming. I couldnt mess about with root canals as was going on a holiday which I had saved for for a long time so had it out.

Can get pricey, I have had two removed, I cracked one and ignored it and one seemed to come out in sympathy, I spent ages trying to get it sorted, fillings, fancy toothpaste, stuff applied to the tooth and just had enough, not missed them, quite like my gap.

Its early days yet..wait til youve had it a few weeks and the insanity kicks in....my worst lasted 3 weeks...3 different dentists,in the end I had it pulled but the root had grown into my jawbone and infected it/left it exposed....bottles of whisky and tramadols like smarties wouldnt touch the pain...nothing I have ever experienced pain wise comes close .It was even worse when the tooth was finally pulled...the only thing that eventually helped was a tobacco like substance held against the exposed bone(from dentist No3)....honestly the worst 3 weeks of my life,I couldnt work, talk on phone or even think straight, spent 2 weeks in bedroom writhing in agony...broke both my hands whilst there and barely noticed the pain from them
