OK pay, 15 weeks holiday a year and a great pension yet they still complain that the crap teachers will now get paid less. Teachers are the laziest most entitled wasters in the public sector and that takes some doing. It bugs the **** out of me that they complain about having to work 'hard', most of them don't know the meaning of the word.

<gets the popcorn out>
This could get entertaining (at least a 6-7 pager!)
FWIW, I was going to have the Summer off anyway. Don't need a strike to do that

Your answer: not many at all. At the moment.
And yes, consistently poor performers should be sacked (in line with appraisal/Performance Management).
However, as far as I can tell, this has **** all to do with the current topic.

I work in a school (not as a teacher) and I have to say that you don't come across as knowing much about what you say. There are some that are lazy, but you get that anywhere and they are in the minority. Most I know are very hard working and in my opinion under paid for what they do. Just because the students get 15 weeks holiday doesn't mean that its holiday time, put your feet up and relax for everyone else.
How much do you value police, fire, ambulance services, doctors etc? How much do you value those that are responsible for the future development of this country, leading young people to become the above?

Performance related pay is a major sticking point, it's due in September. If your appraised as being sh*te then your pay goes down, if it's really sh*te then get sacked. Sadly, the union's will close ranks and get you moved or hidden away until after the OFSTED inspection.
It's the education of the future generations who are at stake here, you want you kid's thinking it's OK to have a sh*te teacher telling them how they should perform.
Perform or accept the consequences.

Fair enough - I hadn't actually given enough of a t0ss to look at the background I thought it was just people jumping on the bandwagon full of teacher-bashers.
So, it's bringing a profession in line with Industry. Fine by me. Not an issue.

As is the removal of under-performing teachers, has been for years.
OFSTED is simply a stick to beat schools with. they have moved the goalposts so often they are no longer credible. If the teaching unions had ANY cojones they would finish OFSTED.
Are you aware that the new OFSTED chief inspector said, when she took office, "Low morale in teachers is a good thing....."
THIS is what teachers are up against.
In line with industry? Don't make me laugh.

I personally think that performance related pay is a good thing, especially for teachers. They are teaching the next generation, and if they're not doing a very good job at it, god only knows how many mindless chavs and scumbags there will be roaming our streets in a few years. I think the problem lies within the discipline side of teaching. Teachers are so terrified of dishing out discipline, its not done anymore and kids are treated with kid-gloves, thus allowing them to get away with pretty much whatever they want. Combine this with the ever-increasing amount of parents who seemingly let their kids do anything / give them anything they want, and you have a ticking time bomb on your hands. Parents and teachers need to learn how to say a simple word......'NO'.
If you're a teacher and don't like the thought odf performance-related pay, then there are plenty of people that will happily step into your shoes and take your jobs!
I feel i'm qualified to say the former aswell before I start getting bombarded with 'anti-teacher' comments. I have just spent a year on the Army recruiting team (I am a full time soldier) and have been to more schools / colleges / uni's than you can shake a stick at. I have seen how teachers talk to and act around kids and teens, like they're almost petrified of saying the wrong thing in-case they get a warning / suspended etc etc. Its a joke to be honest. I do hasten to add however that I have seen some brilliant teachers that control the class and command respect from their pupils. Unfortunately these are fairly few and far between.

Aww, this is fun, isn't it?
Where's Pete to add to the mirth?
You'll excuse my joviality, but Scoobynet and Teacher-bashing is a regular occurrence. So much so, that I can't take it seriously, no matter how hard I try.
Nevertheless, it is fun to watch and participate in
Dan
Ps, yes I do work in Education

Yes, thats true,up to a point. Since bringing in PRpay and Single Status for support staff , all goal posts have been moved. Jobs in education ,as in the NHS and others, are quite a bit different to what they were 5 years ago

Who cares if teachers go on strike - it's not as though they do anything economically productive.
Sounds like a good way to save money to me.
What kind of a professional goes on strike anyway?
