Very sad news indeed. Iain, Menzies included or not, is one of my favourite authors. My first Banks book was Excession, I then went and did the normal thing of reading The Wasp Factory, and was hooked.

I've read several of his books; 'Complicity' and 'The Wasp Factory' being my two favourites.....both equally macabre but humorous at the same time
Such a shame to hear this, and I wish him all the very best

My best and oldest friend died from the same thing in 2011. He was diagnosed in June and dead by mid September.
He was another one who faced it incredibly bravely, in fact when he told me, it was me that broke down.
He then set about lining up all his financial ducks in order to leave his wife and family comfortable, even going as far as asking the TATA Steel rep to call at his house to discuss the best package for him, retirement, death in service etc etc.
TATA were very supportive too.
I last saw him on a Friday lunchtime, he passed away the next morning.
I still miss him a lot and am filling up typing this.
Wouldn't it be good if we spent money on trying to beat cancer, instead of relying on charities and spending OUR money joining in wars?
