right AA went to class 1 for towing a car in the specs. you can drive a rigid truck up to i think 28ton ish.
if your towing any cars in specs your recovery truck becomes a class 1 unless you got grandfarther rights.passed your test before 1998

class c or class 2 in old talk, you can drive anything weight wise as long as its rigid, anything over 750kg towing will require a class c+e or class 1 in old talk.... as above grandfather rights entitles you to tow over 750kgs but only with a 7.5 ton truck. not a class 2

no worries, its something still fresh in my head, i drive a class 2 at work and we have this debate nearly every day about towing the trailers with diggers on.. some people think becouse i drive a truck i can tow anything aswell
if im right i think that is legal, providing what you are towing dose not weigh more than what your using to tow it..

I think on my licence total weight allowed is 8250kgs or 8.25 tonnes
It has a code 107 next to it

I had the same problem for 7 years. even when the control know you cant do it they try to push it. thats why i had to learn the ins and outs of it all.
all cars, vans and trucks have max towing or laydon weights. but should not exeed your truck weight.
if you got a code next to it you can always phone DVLA and they should be able to tell you more about your licence. i also did that as well

C1 you can drive upto 7500kg with 750 trailer.
C1+E as above but you can drive a combination upto 12000kg. Trailer must not be heavier than the towing vehicle.
C is 32000kg plus 750kg trailer.
C+E is trailer over 750kg.
The AA run some fairly large vehicles, I am sure some of their larger flat beds are 18 tonners. Plus you might need to tow a trailer that a customer was towing with their range rover... hence the need for C+E.
A pal of mine was on recovery for quite a few years and he has C+E.
HTH!

K just be sure what they want you to drive before you take the job - if you have not driven much on the LGV side you ned to be ready to be pulled by VOSA and get your collar felt...
Do they use digital tachos or do they use the 100km rule? I assume you dont have a digi card? Also, do you have the Driver CPC card - not law just yet though.

most of the AA trucks are 12 ton with a pay load of 3.5ton max. If they get bigger they used to pass the work to us at Mansfield group. they dont really touch commercial.
Towing was more for the caravans. I used to get out of it. normally they was going miles lol.
Or AA sometimes doubled up on recovery so twice the money for same miles. seen it done loads.
Dirk you should be alright on that. what company you going for then?
