Expenses for thatcher
Looks like the British public are going to pay a lot more than they expected for the funeral of the ex PM.

They realise ok, you can bet that. Whether they care what the voters think is another matter. Personally , i dont think so.

But don't forget, it's IPSA ('Independent' Parliamentary Standards Authority) that decides it, so either they are not very independent at all, or they live on a different planet and need re-staffing.

I was in my dads bag when she was in charge so don't really have an opinion. I do think it's a joke she is having a hyped up funeral. The queen yes, someone in charge then no.
And I heard on the radio today that although she did close the mines many were not making any money so they were going to close anyway.

My dad is a retired miner and it was Arthur scargill who put pay to all the mines round my way at least (northeast)
I actually wish there was someone in charge now who had the ***** and conviction to do what they thought was best for our country without worrying about upsetting a few.

Best for the country?
Stop benefits to all but yhe disabled, cut pensions (we haven't been able to afford then since the 30s), plough money into infrastructure projects and the promotion of engineering and manufacturing jobs, clamp down on tax dodging by the rich, cut foreign aid, stop importing endless tonnes of crap, support farming, encourage apprenticeships over degrees, only allow immigration to skilled workers, stop propping up the failing house building industry but encourage civil engineering projects, slice the NHS in half.
That should do it.

If they said she can have a state funeral but the politicians would have to pay for it personally out of their own pocket and not from the public purse i wonder how many would be dipping into their own pockets to pay for it ?

And if we said the same about some other aribitary state expense...Flags for townhalls for example....what value would that bring to the debate ?
Every penny of state spending should be justified - not just ones you dont like.
She was (whether you agree or not) a global stateswoman who played a significant role on the world stage including her contribution to the ending of the cold war and therefore its reasonable to hold a public memorial.

I have to say that those MP's are not slow off the mark when it comes to getting expenses! I wonder if they will all claim the full amount regardless or will they have to submit proof of the costs involved.
Just as well Maggie saved the country £75 billion when she achieved the rebate from the Eu...only for Billy Liar to hand a big lump of it back in order to impress the other world leaders on his own account!

Could you please suggest a fast RWD estate that's British? And a 4wd camper? Or in fact any non sports car? Thought not.
