Utilising your phone when going abroad.
Has anyone got any hints and tips on using mobile phones when going abroad. I'm going to Berlin next week. I've done screen prints of the tube map, and marked various places on Google maps.
Any other hints and tips.(mainly for not getting lost)

An important one is to turn data roaming off otherwise you will be hit with a huge bill when you get back.
There are usually plenty of apps for tourists you could search for.

Download anything you need using the wifi before you go anywhere rather than the mobile network, will save you some cash
You will also be charged for your 901 (voicemail) calls so suggest you dont answer them!!

If you have an android device id suggest sygic, you get a seven day free trial before it asks for your money.
But the advantage is it doesn't need a data connection as all maps are installed to your device.

Download The Actual Berlin Area On Google Maps Then You Can Use Them With Your GPS When You Get There Without The Need To Connect To The Network.
