Import taxes on USED car bits ?
#5
Can get complicated, whilst restoring a Delorean I imported a lot of parts from the states due to the fact the remaining stock was bought by a Texas company when they went bust.
Interestingly when they purchased them they paid VAT so bringing them back did not incur an import fee, however parts being remade over there to the same spec did, confusing on a mixed order.
However having a bespoke part made and sent over as a " machine sample" did not incur import duty
Cheers

I asked this question of HMRC back when I started restoring my Honda CB550, because a lot of the parts on it came from the US.
Basically, used S/H parts do not incur duty, but unused NOS parts do. Unless, as in the DeLorean case above, the original purchaser has already paid duty on them.

Depends on how they are posted, I imported a few used ej22t blocks from the USA and they cost me about $660 dollars yet when landed I had to pay £223 duty and vat and handling fees on one of them another was about £178, I have no idea on how they work their pricing out I just know it seemed unfair.
