Just thought I'd share this with you guys.
So, in short, a lad in my Regiment recently returned from Afghan, unfortunately with no legs below the knees and not much left of his left hand. Fortunately (to make a $hit situation a bit more bearable), he had taken out numerous personal insurance policies, and, after all said and done, he ended up with a fair old wedge of money!
He bought a brand spanking new GTR in white. It has been customised inside so he can control the throttle / indicators and a few other bits with his right hand.
I didn't notice it at first, but only a squaddie would have done it.....
(I make no excuses for the shocking standard of parking, although it is a private car park lol)

AWESOME! Fair play to the lad! I take my hat off 2 anyone that serves for queen and country and puts their life on the line!
Looks like he's still got a sense of humour and a love for fast cars. Can't fault him!

As much as I respect him serving in the forces, how much of a payout do you get if you loose both legs in the Army? It must be £400,000+ then? How does it all work? I have no idea if I'm right or miles out with the figures...
Because if you can afford to blow (I don't know the cost of a brand new custom GTR but lets say £80k), a large amount of money on a new custom GTR, then you must still need a hell of a lot left over to see you through the rest of your life with the implications of having no legs?

The Army has its own insurance scheme, but everyone is highly encouraged to take out other policies, especially before you go away. With most armed forces policy schemes, you can 'adjust them' if you like, depending on where you are in the world / what you're doing, but obviously if you're off to somewhere dangerous, then you put your insurance right up, obviously for a cost.

I certainly would if I had a 1 million payout. Maybe not a new GTR, but something that's already been modded by an enthusiast to save myself some money. At first I was thinking to myself "1 million that's ******* loads" but thinking about it more carefully, I'd be expecting that amount if I lost both legs at a young age and never walk independently again. Respect to the man.
