Well I must apologise, as I clicked the link I was expecting to see a load of scottish muslims had been humping some local crack ****** and passing them round their mates.
Low and behold I discover the bishop has been bashing the altar boy, again, I call it "The right of passage" to becoming a priest, as always the abused become the abusers, as they all start out as altar boys it's to be expected.
Religion, bringing people together.

A soldier walked into the ladies department at AAFES and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, "I'd like to buy a bra for my wife."
"What type of bra?" asked the clerk.
"Type?" inquires the man, "There's more than one type?"
"Look around," said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material imaginable. "Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of bras to choose from."
Relieved, the man asked about the types.
The saleslady replied: "There are the Catholic, the Salvation Army, the Presbyterian, and the Baptist types. Which one would you prefer?"
Now totally befuddled, the man asked about the differences between them.
The Saleslady responded, "It is all really quite simple...
The Catholic type supports the masses;
The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen;
The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright; and
The Baptist makes mountains out of molehills."

It is distressing to hear of those evil offences against those children. Anyone found guilty of such behaviour should be very heavily punished as far as I am concerned.
It is also disappointing to see that many of those responsible are members of the Catholic religion. I think it is worth stating however that the religion would never accept that behaviour and it would be considered a very great offence against its teachings. Those types of offences are not only committed by members of that religon of course. Those of a different religious persuasion find it very convenient to use such actions against the religion as though it encourages them.
I think that the fact that priests in that religion have to remain single is at the base of the problem. Enforced celibacy is bound to have an effect on those priests and it is not surprising that some of them fall into temptation.
I feel that the celibacy rule is a mistake and that the religion should permit its priests to marry. I am sure that would go a long way to getting rid of this problem.

Well the whole idea of not allowing marriage is, shall we say, a little poorly thought through.
I mean exactly what sort of people do they expect to attract to their church?
This matter has nothing to do with the existence or not of God, so I am not sure why some people bring this matter up.
It has everything to do with human nature though.

It's strange how religion seems to change its rules constantly to suit its own needs, rather than what was stated to be the rules 'in the beginning', if you like.
By the time you have achieved ANY sort of position of authority in whatever religion, you are fully aware of what the rules are, what you can and can't do and what is required of you by your 'god'. If you cannot stick to these rules, then leave the religion, simple as that. Don't use 'interpretation' as an excuse to do things that are against the rule book of that religion, as so many priests and vicars seem to do (or use).

That's one of the chief differences between Christianity and Islam; one adapted to the world, the other has kept rigid and true to its original message.

Not really, it was something that came up on an episode of The Big Question with Nicky Campbell, but it made a lot of sense about the difference between the two (it's how most of my opinion is formed )
<Nutshell>
Christianity has 'loosened' the rules of being a good Christian, sex before marriage, living in sin, gays, etc. in an effort to stay popular, and relevant.
Islam however has largely kept to its original tenets, and to the modern world may well appear strict. (e.g. Sharia)
</Nutshell>
Not saying either is right or wrong, it's just two polarising approaches.

Religion is a prime example of how easily the masses are influenced by powerful leaders. The ***** are another example.
The utter nonsense today about the economy looking rosy is yet another.
The masses are incredibly easy to manipulate given a little flair and a convincing story. Yet everyone likes to think they are different.
