What do I cook?
#1
Just told the wife I would cook her a meal on Saturday night and got the usual response of "Oh lovely another curry, chicken tonight or pizza"
Anyone suggest something I can cook to impress?
I can cook anything if I have instructions just no idea what to do...
Any ideas?
Cheers

Does your wife like Italian food???
I would suggest
Something very simple but with top quality ingredients. Light and easy white wine to match.
Pasta.. Does not matter what type buy fresh. No dried herbs. Real pesto etc.
What about fresh Lobster Ravioli served with a wine and red pepper sauce .with a Rocket salad.
Get your self to a good Italian Deli ( or Waitrose at a push) and ask for their help. I would not mess about with starters but a realy nice sweet is always a good idea.

Si
You cant go far wrong with homemade Bruschetta to start with, with garlic, tomatoes and goats cheese.
Followed by puff pastry baskets filled with creamy garlic mushrooms, and bacon if she likes meat. Accompanied by spicy potato wedges and veg.
Dead easy to do, and always works when I cook it.
1. Potatoes:
Peel a load of spuds, cut them into wedges, place in bowl and cover with olive oil. Sprinkle a **** load of Cajun spice over them and roast in oven for about 45 minutes, gas mark 6.
2. Baskets.
Roll some puff pastry into a rectangle, and cut a small line about 1 inch in from the edge. Only cut about half way through the thickness of the pastry though. Put in oven to cook, then when done cut out the "lid" - the bit youcut the slices in for.
Fill with creamy fired mushrooms, where mushrooms are fired in butter with garlic, and have cream added to them. Add them to basket, place lid on and voila!!!

Cheers people!
Only problem with mississipi chicken is she doesn't like BBQ sause unfortunatly.
I like the idea of M&S instant stuff...
Dream Weaver - The potatoes are a very good idea, but the baskets sound like a disaster area if I try and do them.. although would definitly be very impressive if I pulled it off.
I think I shall have to visit the supermarket tonight for some research and then buy it tomorrow so needs to last a day before I cook it... in case that makes a difference?
Keeps them coming you have given me lots of cool ideas so far..

Mexican - Shrimp n chicken Fajitas, dead easy. Get the fresh tortillas from Tesco, not the nasty old el paso ones!
Some nachos to start.
Loads of beer! (but only because it adds to the atmosphere)

Cool...
I went to visit my Mum last night and she was saying that they believe they have a ghost in the house.
That they occassionally see something out of the corner of their eye and there is nothing there when they turn around but that they get the impression it is a black animal slightly bigger than a cat.
Then said that things go missing and then they appear where you had looked already..
Also that 3 people have stayed overnight and had strange occurances.. one woman said about breathing on their face, and another about brushing across her face and one woman always sleeps in a nightie and woke up and it was neatly folded on the floor.
All there husbands / partners have had nothing occur.
Personally although I didn't point it out.. I could pretty much explain them all..
The girl with no nightie probably consumed lots of alcohol that night and just forgot to put it on etc..
They have cats that like the room that guests stay in which explains the breathing and brushing on the face.
I am always losing things and they turn up where I have looked already or under my nose and that is just how things happen, not someone else moving/hiding them.
Also people often think someone / thing is behind them and turn around and see nothing, your mind tries to build a picture and probably has made the shadows into this cat like creature etc..
then you mind exspects to see it the next time etc..

Top Chef cheating recipe coming up....never fails.......
1. shallow fry 4-6 Chicken thighs (depending on appetite)in Olive oil with skin on until lightly browned.
2. remove Chicken and place in casserole
3. Chop finely some onion, carrot and celery (a decent handful in all)and add to fying pan with Chicken fat(left over from frying the chick)Fry for 2/3 mins.
4. Add.....wait for it....a large tin of Campbells cream of Mushroom soup and the same amount of water to the Chicken. Add the veg and stir.
5. Place in oven 375 degrees for about 45 mins, covered.
6. Ladle off excess chicken fat that rises to the surface at about 30 mins and stir.
Serve with Salad or your fav veg.
(for extra ponciness, stir in a good dollop of cream just before serving and/or add some extra mushrooms at the frying veg stage.

OK another suggestion that requires almost no actual cooking (only any good if you eat 'rare' meat:
Get a fillet of beef (yes, a whole one)
Chop some rosemary and bash up some coriander seeds and roll the fillet in it. Drizzle with a little olive oil.
Put a pan onto the highest heat you can (best if its one of the griddle ones).
Cook the fillet for about 5 minutes, turning a couple of times.
Let it rest for about 5 minutes and then slice thinly and put on a plate. Sprinkle over some chopped coriander, ginger and chillies and then pour over a bit of soy sauce, sesame seed oil and juice of a lime.
Serve with some really nice bread you've bought and a bag of fancy salad leaves, with some olive oil/balsamic vinegar to dip the bread into.
Use the leftovers the next day for the best sandwiches you've ever had!!
You can also do the same thing with large pieces of tuna.

Marks & Sparks, Marks & Sparks, Marks & Sparks.....
Seriously they do some absolutely gorgeous food that needs no preparation or cooking skills, all the hard work is done for you All you have to do is either microwave or stick it in the oven, serve (with a nice wine) and enjoy. Just make sure you hide the packets
I used to be a total food snob in the old days and wouldn't touch anything in a packet but ready meals have got so good nowadays that I use them most of the time - so much less hassle and so quick!
