I have a 3 hour layover in China coming up soon. I won't be leaving the airport and will be flying on, out of the country. Has anybody done this before and if so, are there any visa requirements?

I believe as long as you are not passing through customs you should be ok. Might be worth checking with the airport but I'm almost positive when you get off the plane and follow the connections signs you should avoid all that and be ok.

No Visa required. your a transit passenger, and not entering the country (technically)
When we flew to Oz earlier in the year, we did the same, as your staying air-side, you haven't gone through border control / immigration so no entry visa required

It's known as TWOV (Transit Without Visa) and at Shanghai and Beijing, the Chinese will actually let you into the country without a visa for up to 72 hours; presumably in the hope that you will spend money in their cities.

Just dont do what I did once - not china but in the US. I got off the plane and just followed the crowd forgetting I was connecting. When I got to the doors to leave the terminal for some reason I took the door that said exit rather than connections.... and the second I went through the doors I realised and turned round but security would not let me go back in... this was at Christmas in a pretty busy airport. Had to find the check in desk, go through security again and made it to the gate with about 30 seconds to spare even though I had been about 200 yards from the gate about 2 hours before.... dumbass.
