Default Royal Fail, yet again...

Ordered some small parts by internet last Thursday. They were posted Thursday night before the post went.
STILL haven't received them, and Royal Fail says I must wait 3 weeks before they are officially lost!

Today, I wanted to post a control unit to a guy for a software upgrade. I boxed it with it's bubble-wrap, took it to the PO and asked to buy a label to send it and one to return it.

Can't do that!

So could I enclose a return label? Nope!

Had to buy stamps for the value of £6.95 which is what I was quoted to send it, so that's what I did.

Went home, wrapped it in a sheet of plastic, enclosed my stamps, took it back and lo! £8.25 please!!! Kerching!!!
Apparently it had gone 5g over the 500 g limit, which I didn't know about.

So I've had to send matey two more stamps, plus pay the extra.

And they wonder why they are steadily losing custom.

If you aren't going to take into account the weight of the packaging it's your fault.

Last year it took 18 days for an ordinary sized envelope containing some event tickets to travel 22 miles!!! (yes I know it has to go via a sorting office miles away)

By the time I got it the event had finished over a week before.

Tony: you REALLY reckon a small plastic bag and some tape weighs 60g? That's more than two ounces.

I beg to differ.

You said it was 5g over the limit. Packaging could easily more than 5g. 2 x 1p coins is about 7g.

Have you been in contact with the sender of the small parts and asked them wether they have proof of postage??

If you dislike Royal Mail so much why didn't you use a courier, you don't even have to leave the house with most of them as they collect!! You could have set up a collection from the other end when ready, all from the comfort of your computer chair

I'm going to have to start doing this.

The PO are just not customer-friendly.

My local PO is super friendly. I guess it's down to individual branches.

Did they use digital scales or those old fashioned analog ones?

Cost me more to send that to a UK address than to send a bigger, heavier parcel to France last month!

Didn't argue, just questioned as to why it had changed from the quoted price, then paid up.
So

I rarely go off on one at people serving me in shops, it's usually NOT their fault, and I have to use the service at other times.

The fault lies with RM, NOT the ladies serving me.

So yes, you can believe me.

What I WILL do is pressurise salespeople for a a decent deal.

Not really RM's fault if you go over the weight limit is it?

Did you not ever stop and wonder why Royal Mail do actually weigh items and then give you a price

I would personally assume that the weight does actually play a big part in the pricing

Of course, but I wasn't told where the bands were. The lady COULD have said, "It's under 500g, so that will be £6.95. Nope, just, "£6.95 please".

And anyway, if you RE-read my OP, you'll see that the mess-up over pricing wasn't my only complaint:
1. Parts ordered, paid for, posted first class LAST THURSDAY, still not arrived, but I must wait THREE WEEKS until the PO will declare them lost

2. There seems to be no system in place where I can pay for return postage, other than having to buy stamps, which are then given back at the other end. How archaic?

3. And THEN the ****-up over pricing. :rolleyes;

I'll give you number 1 as that sucks,

No2, How could this ever possibly work ???? Once the parcel/letter or whatever arrives at said destination it will be unwrapped and re packaged to send back to you so all the postage marks ect will be gone/ruined. So the smart way is to supply you with a document that you can stick to the return package "agreed" which in there case is stamps

N03, I don't quite get how they cocked up with there pricing ? they weighed it and charged you accordingly Is this not the way it's done ?
I'm sure if you tried to post a parcel and the clerk sat there for 30 min's reeling off all the grammatical/costs ect and kept you stood for a while then you would for sure be back on here moaning yet again

1. Is there proof of postage? You can't say it been posted until you see proof! (I did ask in my 1st reply but you didn't answer!)
2. You can pay for return postage, its called stamps. They can't use the label system for return postage as when the label is printed its then classed as in the system (which it isn't)
3. No **** up over pricing, you just went over weight. Adding stuff, no matter how small can have a big effect over price if you're on the borderline. Maybe it wouldn't have hurt to tell you that you were close to it......but they don't HAVE to!

There's no proof, but he's a trusted seller in my hobby. If he says it's posted, it is.
